Employment History

(2006 & ongoing)

Freelance/ Contract Work

Since leaving Electronic Data Systems I took time out after working for 26 years.
I then temped at ESAMCINTOSH, an admin role, through Avenue Scotland recruitment agency.
Being very much interested in developing my HR career, I have written and developed training courses as this is where my particular interest lies. I completed a train the trainer course and have been attending seminars etc. These included an employment law masterclass, and an introduction to NLP.

I then set up a training company offering soft skills training to business and individuals.

(Oct 2001 to Jun 2006)

Glasgow

See previous entry. I still worked in the same role for EDS. Moving latterly to the pensions division, dealing with pensions for retired army personnel. This involved working in the team responsible for checking correct entitlement to pensions, calculating and making payments. The role is demanding and responsible, with the need for accuracy, attention to detail and confidentiality.
I left because I was marrying and relocating.

(Mar 1999 to Sep 2001)

Administrative Officer

Ministry of Defence

Administrative assistant for the first month, then promoted to Administrative Officer.
I was part of a team dealing with the pay and allowances of all regular soldiers in the British army. The nature of the post is both responsible and dynamic. It demands accuracy, prioritising, confidentiality and working to deadlines while at the same time being quickly responsive to change. I dealt with specific army units, calculating and making sure pay and allowance were accurate and paid on time. The role involves dealing with all grades and ranks, both military and civilian, face to face, by telephone or in writing. There has to be effective communication, being clear and concise in instruction. Any mistakes, no matter how they occur, have to be corrected quickly and accurately. I was involved in staff training and mentoring, which I really enjoyed. Helping others reach their full potential gives me a great sense of achievement.
The job was privatised and I then worked for EDS.

Additional Information

I have always worked in public service administrative/customer service roles. I have also worked in part time evening and weekend posts while working in my full time ones. These have been customer service/care orientated, ranging from hotel, shop, pubs to nursing homes and directory enquiries.

I am a very good, accurate worker. I am dependable, trustworthy and give 100% to my work. I am helpful and efficient while doing a very effective job. I am used to being in demanding roles which require accuracy, responding to change and working to deadlines. I am also used to working in roles that require a high degree of confidentiality.
I attained a degree majoring in human resource management and feel that I have a lot to offer. I have been involved in staff training and mentoring, which I took great pride in.
I have always believed in providing the best customer service and believe strongly that recruitment, training and staff development are important to giving the best.

I am thoroughly committed to training and development. I believe in self development and have always strived to keep studying and update my skills.
All my experiences have taught me to look at people’s abilities, needs, strengths and weaknesses. Doing this lets me see what person is best suited to what job. I do not prejudge on a professional or personal level. If someone tells me what someone else has said, done or is like I will not make a judgement until I have found out for myself.
I like to think I can pass on my own learning and life experiences in order for others to reach their full potential and grow in self esteem and confidence. I realise that people have to learn for themselves and that different methods suit different people. I always set out to let trainees discuss and try out things rather than be spoken at.
