(Mar 1997 to Jul 1999)

Software Consultant

Thermo Electron, Manchester

I was part of a large international team working on a product that was aimed at a world-wide marketplace and were the deadlines we worked to were critical. This project was being developed using Visual C++ version 5.0 on a Windows NT platform. We use in-house developed monitoring tools to track our progress, and assist us in the day-to-day running of the project. These tools help us to meet our ISO 9001 accreditation requirements. I was the principle design architect for a project which involved designing and implementation a set of ATL and ActiveX controls to programmatically control our core software product. As part of this project test harness were written in VB, Visual C++, HTML using client and server side VB. These controls are essential as they allow us to develop “layered” applications on top of the core software without significant effort and without exposing our internal formats. I was technical lead in developing a complex scientific editor.
