Employment History

(2008 to 2008)

Freelance Consultant

Having spent the last two years working in medical markets, and having previous experience of the equally large Oil industry sector, I made the decision to become a freelance consultant. Enabling me to bring my experience of large market sector demands to a variety of businesses and sectors.

(2007 to 2008)

Developer

Belfast

• I was employed to join a team of engineers who had developed a variety of wireless vital signs monitoring sensors, to design and develop software to configure the devices and interact with the resultant data.
• Produced a prototype software system within 6 months for use in clinical trials of the devices at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast.
• Was placed on an Embedded software development course and learnt embedded C for Texas Instruments MSP430 series.
• Used these skills to help place patented algorithms on ST+Dʼs wireless devices.
• When I arrived the engineers were using a variety of feature crippled expensive compilers, I switched the engineering team to the open-source and free GCC compiler.

(2006 to 2006)

Engineer

I briefly worked for, and invested, in MacSys Ltd in Belfast. During my time there I used my skills as a qualified engineer to perform repairs and offer support to their customers. I was also actively involved in tutoring trainees, and was developing software solutions for MacSys at the time of my resignation. I no longer have an investment in MacSys.

(2001 to 2004)

“Distribution Project” leader.

Matrix Systems

• Joined team developing a Secure data distribution service both web based and, where available, Lotus Notes client based. Distribution was used by many of the top oil companies. At the end of my first 3 months our team delivered a new version which was deployed globally. I continued as a developer on this project for some 12 months, after which I was promoted to “Distribution Project” leader.
• As Project leader I was in charge of a team maintaining the product and also consulting in the development of the successor product “PowerShare”. Ensuring a smooth transition between products.
• Initially assigned to the “PetroDMS" (Now “PowerDoc") project as a troubleshooter. I was quickly promoted to take the prototype document management system to it's first release. Once the release was made, I was placed on the project full time as Lead Developer, in charge of coordinating teams in Aberdeen, Moscow, and Jakarta.
• Developed Lotus Notes workflow management tools for use internally.
• Was sent to client sites to perform server installations in high security server rooms, at Total HQ in Pau, France, and Technip HQ in Paris. I also visited our development team in Jakarta, Indonesia, and performed many on site visits to the Technip offices in Paris at the clientʼs request.
• For the first 12 months of the “PetroDMS” project, I administered the worldwide servers, including locations in Aberdeen, London, Pau and Paris. (Eventually further servers were added at all locations and servers would be added in Korea and Australia)
• Development was very constrained due to the complex arrangements of each separate companies IT departments and led to many problems such as timely data replication across firewalls, access to servers within internal networks via proxy servers and such. All of these problems were able to be overcome by
on-site client liaison and some product modifications.
