Employment History

(2003 to 2008)

Management Consultant

 Initial 3 month project - Design, create and manage key partner strategies for implementation for UK launch of voice over IP. Involved identifying and evaluation of potential suppliers for space, utilities, connectivity, equipment, installation and maintenance. Resultant analysis gave confidence to agree my recommendations and request my management of a new team for implementation of results.

 Established a location for equipment, arranging installation to evolve a supply chain for UK services. Negotiated contracts approved for immediate commencement and achieved going live with test site within targeted 3 months.

 Projects further extended to research and develop product features and pricing to be competitive with existing technologies and make initial approaches to key customers including Cable & Wireless. Established, qualified and demonstrated benefits to potential users for future presentations. Coordinated network testing on pilot and live sites resulting in first contract for supply in first year.

 Repeated the process bringing Hudson St., New York on line, recruiting local data engineers all of whom are still present.

 Designed, created and managed key partner strategies to formulate the UK launch and operation. Established route to market through research of distribution channels, personal contacts and negotiation, achieving break even of operating costs in year ended 2005.

 Oversaw additional nodes in Hong Kong and Gibraltar.

 Latterly examined additional markets and routes, in particular social / business networks such as ‘Facebook’ and new approach to China.


(1995 to 2003)

Managing Director

 Created a billing system, identified companies who were early adopters, and persuaded telephone carriers to join with us, creating a new route to market. Established initial sales of ground breaking call management system requiring both ‘the competition’ and clients to adapt to the new concept. Suppliers included Worldcom, MFS, Telia, Energis and Cable & Wireless.

 Market knowledge and a strong set of negotiation skills persuaded carriers of the benefits of multi-trading. The above suppliers all agreed to route our calls on the basis of best rate for each call in real time.

 Developed a route to market for the carriers that has spawned thousands of imitatators following this market innovation.

 Personal account portfolio - Woolwich plc, Nat West Bank achieving year on year business growth and final year sales results exceeding £3 million. Retained and persevered with contact at Woolwich Building Society over 18 months in order to secure order. Ultimately, every call to and from Woolwich went through Outburst.

 Analytical/logistic skills innovated working methods, growing the business base from start up to £1 million plus inside 3 years. In second year turnover quadrupled by creating a strategy based on charging for performance rather than a daily rate as was the norm.

Financial Director

Racal

 Having joined Racal as a young cost accountant in one of their manufacturing units, I progressed through a variety of their companies culminating in becoming Financial Director of the, then, Racal Vodafone. Originated suggestion for Racal Electronics to apply for cellular radio licence, thrown out by the main board three times before being appointed project manager to develop business plan (7 volumes) including technical proposals. Presented to Stamford Research on behalf of UK government. Succeeded in securing one of only two licences – Racal Vodafone and Cellnet.
