Quality & Best Practice Manager: - Hanson Aggregates Ltd. (Jan 2001 - Dec 2004).

  • Planned and executed audits across fifty locations within Northern England and Scotland, which ensured compliance Company Management Systems.
  • Set and monitored KPI's relating to quality and essential business process's, including complaints; order processing, and product development & testing.
  • Managed and regularly analysis of complaints database using Crystal Reports, include database development, preparation of 'cubes' for other remote users. Planned and delivered related training to users on the system.
  • Monitored and liaised with suppliers and customers on agreed quality issues.
  • Provision of quality, business system and product based training to members of staff at operational Units.
  • The provision of consultancy and auditing services (EMS, QMS and SMS) to a joint venture company. Implementation of the Construction Products Directive for 'CE Marking' of Aggregates (both level 2+ and 4).
  • The management, execution and implementation of projects in support of the company's 'Best Practice' initiatives, which included a project relating to the integration of management systems in the work place.

Environmental Manager: - Pioneer Group of Companies, UK. (Jan 1999 - Dec 2000).

  • Developed and implemented company policy for environmental management (ISO 14001) within 6 months of joining company, followed by waste and water management strategies in the following 9 months.
  • Completed a re-design of the environmental management system to ensure compliance with ISO 14001, followed by implementation at 6 key sites within 6 months.
  • Liaised with government, industry groups and local communities regarding Company environmental affairs.
  • Established and successfully implemented management and staff training programs to raise and maintain environmental awareness to cover 110 staff at 14 sites throughout the UK.
  • Managed five key environmental projects over a period of 15 months using teams of consultants and operational staff. Projects included Energy and Waste Management, Supervision of ENTRUST projects.
  • Involved in 4 key business process improvement projects as team member, enabled reductions of up to 12% to be achieved against budget and planned costs.

EMS & QMS Assessor:- LRQA Ltd. (Oct 1991- Dec 1998).

Employed initially QMS Assessor, and transferred to EMS Assessor, assessing to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 series of standards, included EMAS verification and CE marking assessments with agreed professional background. Duties included; Management of multi-discipline assessment teams; Undertaking Client Management Roles for multi-national contracts and Local Authority contracts; Undertaking business development projects at the Head Office; Execution of in-house facilitation projects with multi-national companies; Technical helpdesk/support duties; Supervision and training of Assessors.

Quality Manager & Assistant Materials Engineer:- Highways Dept. Berkshire CC (April 1990- Sept 1991).

Responsibilities included; Maintain NAMAS accreditation of Highways Laboratory; Design and maintenance of Highways Laboratory management system; Advising suppliers/contractors on County's requirements for quality of service, including evaluation of their Quality Management Systems; Provision of technical advice on materials for major construction projects, and Quality Management Systems for Shire Hall Dept of Highways & Planning; and Technical training of staff in Highways Laboratory.

Assistant QA Manager: - ARC Aggregates Ltd. - Northwest Area (Septl984 - April 1990).

Employed initially as a Management Trainee within the Technical Department, was promoted through the following positions: Technical Grade 1: Senior Technician: Assistant Technical Manager: Assistant QA Manager. Based at a number of sand and gravel pits, limestone / hardstone quarries, coating plants, premix concrete units and area office facilities. Posts also involved liaison and interaction with various departments.

Education and Qualifications:

  • B.Sc. (Hon's) Mining 1st Class 1984.
  • EARA - Environmental Auditor & Lead Auditor EMS.
  • Former IRCA registered Lead Auditor for QMS and EMS.
  • Recently completed the JAC International / Hanson Management Certificate, awaiting validation from IL&M.
  • 6 '0' Levels, including English, Math's and 2 'A' Levels.
