Career and achievements to date

Senior Engineer (Processes) September 2004 to Date

Responsible for the support and management of our Engineering Processes (PI's) and Technical Department Instructions (TDI's) as outlined in the Engineering Functional Policy. This Functional Policy is part of the Engineering Life Cycle of Astute. One of the major tasks delivered was education on where all the process documentation is stored. Successfully delivered a series of presentations to 780 engineering staff on where the documentation is, how it is to be used, how to report any problems with processes and how these processes help manage product quality.

Recently produced a process document that defines a new drawing quality checklist function used by BAE Systems design engineers. This in-depth process is now being used by the Astute project. Currently, developing a root cause analysis on ECR's (Engineering Change Requests) strategy to determine why changes where raised.

Senior Engineering Systems Engineer, BAE Systems February 2001 to September 2004

Responsible for support of over 600 design and production engineers across the BAE Systems Barrow, Glasgow, Weymouth, Farnborough and Abbey Wood sites. Provides pro-active support to the Astute submarine programme to ensure effective use of applications and adherence to processes and best practices. Responsible for creating, updating and managing best practices and processes used in the design of the Astute Submarine. Give reactive support to the Astute programme initiated by our on - line problem logger, using a combination of UNIX and Oracle SQL skills. In addition to this, wholly responsible for delivery of training documentation and delivery of training courses to contractors and new starts in use of applications, processes and best practices used by the Astute programme.

Manufacturing engineer, Caterpillar (UK) Ltd September 1998 to February 2001

Responsible for the development and administration of six major projects within the Caterpillar building construction products division. Creation of conceptual project charters within project team. Co-ordination of project activities. Total responsibility for ensuing that team members carry out given project tasks.

Complete re-engineering and installation of 6 assembly production cells, whilst ensuring that there was no impact on overall production. Changes resulted in an increase on production within these cells of 12%. Co-ordinated safe removal and disposal of old assembly production equipment, in compliance with Environmental Agency best practice. Assisted in new product introduction of 924G/ 924Gz Small Wheel Loader at the Leicester plant. Ensured that prototype machines were assembled on time and as required by the project plan. Established that the production line managers and assembly staff knew how to build the vehicle to the correct standard. Achieved by creating pertinent and accurate work orders, whilst establishing a bill of materials accuracy in excess of 95%. Procurement and installation of specialist production equipment, used in hydraulic testing for the Small Wheel Loader and Telehandler range, which ensured that the vehicles were fully tested prior to shipping.

Responsible for training assembly technicians in safe use of testing equipment.
