Sydney, AustraliaVentracor Ltd. is engaging an aggressive development schedule for a unique rotary blood pump - 'artificial heart' that addresses the Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) market. It is intended for long-term, implantation to provide permanent left ventricular heart support in the case of congestive heart failure. First stage clinical trials are currently being undertaken. Responsible for the firmware development, research projects and laboratory testing work relating to the Ventracor's Left Ventricular Assist System (LVAS) controller design. Achievements: ˇ Designed and developed embedded C software for the senseless control and Graphical User Interface (GUI) serial protocol of Ventracor's LVAS controller using an Intel 16-bit microcontroller (Intel 80C196KC20) ˇ Assisted in acute animal trial experiments and exercise studies to develop and validate the control algorithm responsible for the LVAS speed, such that adequate perfusion is maintained given varying physiological conditions. Results contributed towards medical journal publications. ˇ Documented design processes included reports, functional specifications, software FMEA and various correspondence meeting FDA Good Laboratories Practices (GLPs) and Quality Management System (AS/NZS ISO 9001:2000) requirements. | ||
