Work history

Jan 1994 - Jan 1996 Eurotech

Eurotech is an established PCB manufacturing company. Jobs included drilling, scoring and routing PCB boards using CNC machinery and all aspects of the photomechanical side of PCB manufacture.

Feb 1996 - May 1996 BC Wholesales

On leaving my previous job, I was offered a position in BC Wholesales as a sales representative selling various wholesale items to small businesses. Although I was very successful within this company, I was not happy and realised I wanted to continue pursuing a career in engineering.

May 1996 - Oct 1996 Alberice

To enable myself to pursue a career within engineering, I decided I would register myself with an employment agency and promptly began a sub-contract at Alberice. Whilst with this company, I gained skills in assembling testing and repairing electronic meters.

Nov 1996 - July 2000 Penny and Giles controls

When my contract finished at Alberice, I was immediately given another agency placement at Penny and Giles controls. After completing a three month contract with the agency I was offered a permanent position. Within my time at Penny and Giles I learnt many more skills. My training started in the winding section and progressed onto mechanical and electrical sub assembly of commercial transducers. I then promptly moved on to work in their first full manufacturing cell, where all aspects of manufacturing a VRVT (Variable Resistive Vector Transducer) were learnt, from initialising paper work, to machining, tig welding, electrical and mechanical assembly, testing, calibration and packing. Whilst in this department, the company bought a new welder specifically for this product. I was the first to be trained on this after which, I compiled and drew all the welding settings and drawings for this product and went on to train other members of my team in the use of the welding machine. Whilst in this department, I started a day release course studying Btec ONC electronics engineering, which I completed in June 2000 along with an in house NVQ2 course in electrical and mechanical assembly and manufacturing. Before leaving this company I joined their new LVDT (Linear Vector Displacement Transducer) cell in which I learnt all aspects of manufacturing this product. I realised on completion of my Btec that it would be very difficult for me to develop my career any further within this company and decided to apply for a trainee position at BAE.

July 2000 - present BAE systems

Before being accepted for full time employment with the company, I had to complete an eight week intensive course in computer programming in which we covered languages; C, C++ and visual C++. It was also compulsory during this course to learn presentation skills. On completion of the course, I spent six months in the MAPPS team making minor code and document changes and compiling test scripts for gp_tap cm_gateway. I then went on to work on ISDN for HERMES, within this project my main role was compiling and changing code and testing both software and firmware.

Whilst with the company I have completed my first year HNC in computer engineering. I started my second year in September 2002. In August 2001 I joined the SMERF team coding, testing and documenting TI commands and response packages. I also play an active role in future young engineers and am a support engineer and co-ordinator at Twynham School helping and assessing NVQ engineering students. I am also an active member of the technical society, October 2001 I did a presentation to the society explaining the SMERF project. I went on maternity leave at the beginning of 2002 and rejoined the company full time at the beginning of May 2002. On returning 2002 I joined the Ptarmigan Modelling Facility team. My main responsibility on this project was to code the PMF consistency checker for GP-TAP and MAPPS enhancements. The PMF project was completed in March 2003. I immediately went on to join the Falcon integration team. Since joining the team, I have learnt many new skills. My main tasks and responsibilities in this team has been Analysis and verification reports, Test hardware and sofware components, Configure and integrate hardware and software components, Full system test and demonstration, Desgn assemble and test prototype equipment, Produce test plans and schedules.

I have also spent time on some of the electrical installations of equipment assemblies. Whilst working on this project, my hardware, firmware and software skills and knowledge have increased considerably.

May 2004 I completed my HNC in computing and am due to complete my HND in computing in May 2005.

For a brief period of 2004, I assisted in the electrical repairs on 503 and obtained IPC6 certification.

As part of the Falcon systems team, I have gained many skills in the test, integration and use of communication and military information systems my main.

I am aware of and understand the standards that are required and expected.

General

My favourite sport is football, which I enjoy both playing and watching. I also follow motor sports such as formula one and super bikes. My music and socialising with my friends are very important to me.

I am a good team worker who enjoys a challenge. I have proven in other projects that I am a good team player, work well under pressure and am very self motivated.

I am very much a family person and my 2 sons and husband are a great inspiration to me giving me the motivation to achieve my goals in life. I very much enjoy being in an engineering environment and am a very enthusiastic and ambitious person. I hold a full driving licence and a CBT, which allows me to ride small motor cycles.
