Work Experience:
Clinical Production Operative/ Research Associate, Intercytex Ltd, Manchester October 2003 - Present
I have been working with a small team of operators and scientists producing biological products for clinical trials. This job has required adaptability and flexibility and requires one to remain effective under pressure when working to tight deadlines; all of which I feel I have achieved. I have gained a working knowledge of Clinical Quality Assurance and Quality Control and investigational medicinal product development having worked strongly with the quality teams. I have also been working with R&D in product development and been involved in the technical transfer of processes from R&D to manufacture. I feel that this extra responsibility and position has given me confidence and experience working in a clinical environment and extended my knowledge on the processes involved in conducting clinical trials. I have been responsible for document request and control and also the shipping of products to investigator sites. I have generated and implemented SOP's and protocols and other laboratory documents, and also trained juniors in accordance to SOP's.
Assistant Forensic Scientist, The Forensic Science Service, Birmingham. September 2003- October 2003
I worked at The FSS for a short while through a temporary contract. The job involved biological and chemical-based analysis of samples obtained from crime scenes; the identification of samples, comparison of fibres and materials; and examination of items using microscopy, physical and chemical methods. This gave me a good insight in to the work of forensics. The job involved relocation if I was to stay and I could not commit to that at the time, so it was unfortunate that I had to leave.
Photo-minilab assistant, Boots the Chemist, Manchester.November 2002 - January 2003
I worked as a minilab photo-processing assistant for Boots as a temporary member of seasonal staff. My responsibilities involved, processing films for development and correcting lighting, blurs and making other colour enhancements using a computer. I was also responsible for the running of the minilab on most late night shopping evenings.
Recreation Secretary, Salford University Student UnionApril 2001 - July 2002
I was elected in a cross campus student election as Recreation Secretary for the Student's Union. To get this job I had to construct and demonstrate a strategic election campaign; which encouraged the development of my communication skills. This job entailed organization of the Student's Union clubs and societies, and coordinating social events. I had to liaise closely with all the clubs and societies; this involved chairing many meetings and attending national conferences. I had a great deal of contact with my equivalents at other North-West Universities; this involved a lot of teamwork, a method of work that I thoroughly enjoy.
Additional Information:
Ø I hold a full clean driving license and have access to my own car.
Ø I am very keen to apply the skills and knowledge I have gained through University and the experience I have gained through my first year of working; and I am keen and committed to learn new techniques and prepared to undertake training. I have developed excellent communication skills having given several presentations at University; and liaising with different teams at work and also with outside contracting companies has further developed this. I am enthusiastic and passionate about my work and thrive in a challenging, team orientated environment, but can also work competently as an independent contributor
Interests:
Ø I played football for Salford University Ladies Football Club whilst I was at University. I held many responsibilities within the club; I was elected as club treasurer, which involved the responsibility of looking after the clubs finances and managing expenditures. In my final year I was elected as club chairperson, which involved the overall management of the club. I feel that this demonstrates that I am able to balance my work with social pursuits.
Ø I am a subscriber of New Scientist and take a keen interest in many scientific and health issues. I also enjoy reading novels both contemporary and classics. I also have a keen interest in music and theatre.
Ø I am an outgoing and enthusiastic person and enjoy meeting people. I always intend to seize opportunities to take an active part in social and sporting events.
