Thesis :-

Designed a numerical model in C++, based on a novel idea, using the ISO 7 layer protocol based architecture, for dynamic clock alignments in mobile communication networks. I was selected to present a paper based on my findings at the IEE colloquium in Savoy Place for professional group E5. Subsequently the paper was published and I was employed by the University to develop this into a product and successfully marketed it to DRA.

Designed and developed a software package to use DNA fingerprinting as a basis for retrieving data records, from a relational database, using defined search and elimination procedures. Also designed parallel algorithms and hardware configurations for possible future applications using TDS tools.

Head of Data and Voice Telecomm - responsible for working with the director in setting up the new organisation and introducing System engineering to the company. This involved production of new process, procedures and policies to help engineering of all Alstom projects. As well as undertaking normal duties of running a department and managing staff on multiple projects such as project (gate) reviews and staff development & appraisals. Various roles on WCRM-TCS project. Initially tasked as Lead Engineer for Field Trials to help define and set up the trials. Later used as the key driver to put together an integrated L1 and L2 logical program to help drive and direct the project. Then given the task of being the project manager and setting up the first Integration and Testing team for the TCS project. Also, established the first Verification team for the project to establish necessary tools and resources to undertake verification of various phases and formalising test specs, test scripts, test logging and monitoring data recorded. Moved on to be the Lead engineer for the Test and Trial team for the TCS project, covering areas of Test Track, Field Trials, System Integration Platform and Pilot Line.

Involved in working with the design authority and project manager in setting up of and implementation of D&D process with focus on requirements management and design reviews. To address the prime requirement of having multiple customers with differing needs for 3G but the corporate need was to provide a cost effective common platform solution to suit all.

Feb '97 to Feb '00 :- Successfully won the contract worth around £11M and was promoted to the role of Systems manager for the project with system design authority role for the ground based radar system. Started as the Senior Principle Systems Engineer responsible for Systems Engineering and project co-ordination. Involved in the development and management of a multimillion-pound contract. Also active member of a small Advanced Systems team responsible for producing new ideas and concepts to aid successful project award and completion. Designed and implemented the companies first Data Acquisition system for ground based radar's. This has aided in radar characterising, design & evaluation of potential radar algorithms and their prototyping before final system implementation.

Managing a team of people with responsibility for System definition, Requirements management, System integration, Design validation, Design verification and Design proving through to final customer acceptance. Successfully completed large-scale preliminary trials; to determine the validity of the potential application using real targets, such as tanks, large vehicles and helicopters. This has aided in developing our first, on the fly, target classification algorithms for a ground based radar.

Involved in the feasibility studies of acousto-optic receiver systems; using Bragg Cell technology - through to phased array antenna configurations; using wide band antennas for potential development of UAV technological demonstrators.
