Founded Technical & Information Productions Limited, and Engineering Safety Consultancy providing specialist safety assessment, analysis and advice in the defence, marine and nuclear markets.

Contracted to GEC-Marconi, the Astute Prime Contractor, supporting the safety aspects of the platform and propulsion systems design. These included: steam systems, water cooling systems, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, reactor support systems and ship hotel services.

Safety advice to system designs, attendance at Design Reviews.

Specification of Sub-contract work and liaison with sub-contractors, vetting sub-contractor's submissions, acceptance or rejection of sub-contract work.

Contracted to Rolls Royce Marine Power, Derby, responsible for the: translation of research and investigative reports into plant operating documentation, identification of boundaries and operating limits, training requirements and analysis of the safety implications for the plant and individual systems.

Contracted to BAE SYSTEMS Marine Ltd, Deputy to the Astute Platform Safety Manager responsible for compilation and management of the Safety Program for all aspects of the Safety Case within BAE SYSTEMS responsibility. Interfaced with the PCO Safety Manager passing information and co-ordinating safety plans. Additionally, provided support and advice to the Platform Safety Case, including interfacing information and designer's checklists for safety compliance. Prepared original analytical process and procedural documents to support the staged development of the safety management system as well as defining the technical data requirements for the Safety Case, including specification of system safety functions, zonal hazard assessments and compilation of staged safety case documentation.

Managed and actively participated in the compilation of safety case documentation, including System DSJ's from information supplied by several departments within the company, including Structural, Mechanical and Electrical Systems, C&I, Operability, Standards and Coherence. Provided the interface co-ordination function at interface meetings between project member companies and between different departments within the project.

Carried out work in areas of Hazard Identification (Chairman), Analysis and Assessment, Probabilistic Safety Assessment, Deterministic Safety Justification, the preparation of Design Support documents as well as specific analysis of designs for safety implications.

Over 23 years service in the Royal Navy, in surface ships and submarines. Watch Charge Supervisor for operations of the platform systems, submarine nuclear reactor and ship's propulsion systems. Professionally qualified to deputise for the Principal Engineer. Responsible for the availability, maintenance and defect repair of all plant and equipment within the propulsion and Ship's systems departments. Supervisory management experience in the Royal Navy leading a department of over forty multi-disciplined technical personnel.
