Recruitment Manager Carillion Plc / Network Rail

October 2001 -July 2004

During this period I was employed for the majority of the time by Carillion in their Rail Engineering business. (The latter 2 months transferred into Network Rail under TUPE arrangement)

I was responsible for the recruitment of maintenance staff, engineers, and managers across in the Bristol, Gloucester, and Swindon, Wales and Kent contracts areas. My responsibilities were to work closely with regional HR and Line managers to achieve the necessary level of recruits into the contracts to ensure successful achievement of contract standards in terms of manpower and performance.

I was able to successfully deploy a wide range of recruitment methods especially web-based recruitment to attract new entrants for cross training into technical occupations where I was able to make use of a range of reasoning and personality measures.

I left the organisation at the end of June due to insufficient challenges and work volume

Recruitment officer Renishaw Plc

April 2001-September 2001

I was employed by this highly specialised design and manufacturer of laser/optical guided machine tools to recruit engineers at their sites near Stroud. Whilst only employed by Renishaw for only a short while I successfully contributed to the recruitment of a number of development engineers, graduates and apprentices. During midsummer the companies business suffered a severe set back due to the recession in the USA, one of their key markets and my employment could not be sustained.

Senior Recruitment Officer Nortelnetworks

October 1999-April 2001

My role as Senior Recruiter I was based within the Optical components product development and manufacturing division in South Devon. Responsible to designated product development groups and working with a rolling manpower forecast my role was focussed on recruiting predominantly development engineers, managers and some commercial staff into a rapidly expanding business.

Target hires were in the region of 50 per month working alongside two other recruiters in a team.

As a relatively new business I had to design new recruitment strategies to fulfil manpower requirements. Everything had to be done from scratch from establishing basic processes to a rolling programme of advertising, web recruitment, agency management and road shows.

During the early part of 2001 the Telecommunications market world-wide imploded and my position was made redundant along with several thousand others within the group.

During this four years period I worked as an independent recruitment advisor. Nearly always working in house key accounts were:

Compel Plc A national computer systems supplier where I was responsible for recruiting new business and key account managers into a regional branch network. As the account developed I also held responsibility for the recruitment of consultants and project managers.

QA Training/Consultancy One of the Uks leading IT technical training organisations I was appointed to recruit trainers and consultants.

Note: In addition to tending to the recruitment needs of these key businesses I also carried out short recruitment assignments for a number a major organisations such as Sun Microsystems and ICL Pathway to name but a few.

My position with this rapidly growing IT sales and services group was concentrated heavily on the recruitment of corporate sales executives, technical support and managerial staff. The position involved extensive travel within the UK to open new sites and branches. I also gained experience of retail recruitment, as the group was one of the first to enter the compute retail world opening several branches before being sold of to a larger concern.

This became a long-term interim assignment to manage a recruitment campaign for prorammers, systems engineers and project staff.

During this period of employment I was responsible within the steelstock business for predominately training matters across several distinct product businesses within the UK

*Previous employment was within the National Health Service initially as a Management Services officer then moving on to that of Personnel Officer in Worcester.
