Experience
Worked with the C.E.G.B. for 25 years. The work was varied from 240v equipment up to and including 400Kv distribution systems, and as first line management I was responsible for day to day planning, arranging permit for works, time keeping, discipline and stock control together with day to day man management and job distribution.
Switchgear work was on systems ranging from 415v contractors up to and including 11Kv 0n both A.C.Bs and Oil Breakers.
The higher voltages worked on ranged from 132Kv, 275Kv and 400Kv Transformers and interrupters, and Isolating arms. These were REYROLLE O.B 60s and ENGLISH ELECTRIC FRAME "r" Interrupters. Transformer work was on 415v to 3.3Kv, 3.3Kv to 11Kv, and 22Kv to 11kv systems, this included Generator Transformers stepping up from 22Kv to 132Kv , 275Kv or 400Kv systems.
Training for 400Kv work and authorisation was carried out at Eakring National Grids Training centre Nr Nottingham. Authorisation for Permit for work systems, Sanction for tests, and Restoration of motive power permits was carried out on various C.E.G.B. sites , National Power sites, power gen, and nuclear electric sites.
During my position with P & B I gave lectures on Permit for work systems at Nuclear Electric Training Centre at Agecroft to both Nuclear Electric employees and to other companies who requested permission to attend.
P&B POWER position
Work Manager/Engineering manager for P & B POWER ENGINEERING RESPONSIBLEfor pricing, planning, engineering, and job specification and work specification write-ups. Responsible for discipline, transport, ordering all parts and equipment.
Including management of work sites through out the U.K together with safety related engineering for each site.
Control for contractors, deadlines and keeping budgeting. If over budget assessing the amount of additional work and waiting time to reduce the costs.
BOULTINGS SITE MANAGER
Planning work, materials procurement, and liase with customer as to availability of plant.
MANAGERIAL DUTIES
MANAGERIAL SKILLS INCLUDE DISCIPLINE OF WORKFORCE, SITE SAFETY ENSURING WORK IS COMPLETED ON TIME AND WITHIN BUDGET. WRITING OUT METHOD STATEMENTS, FORMULATING WORK SPECIFICATIONS IN DETAIL (i.e. STATING WHAT MEASUREMENTS TO LOOK FOR AND HOW TO ADJUST EQUIPMENT TO OBTAIN THE CORRECT READING.)
DEALING WITH SICKNESS AND MONITORING SICKNESS RECORDS.
PLANNING WORK AND GRANTING HOLIDAYS TO SUIT THE WORK LOAD, OR BRINGING IN CONTRACT LABOUR TO COVER SICKNESS/HOLIDAYS.
CHECKING AND QUERYING EXPENSES IF IT WARRANTS.
DAY TO DAY MAN MANAGEMENT OF THE WORK FORCE AND SITE CONTROL.
SAFETY
ON THE SAFETY SIDE, I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR WRITING SAFETY STATEMENTS FOR EACH JOB WE GO ON. COMBINING IT WITH A RISK ASSESSMENT. PROVIDING ANY SAFETY EQUIPMENT INVOLVED TO CARRY OUT THE TASK CORRECTLY AND SAFELY. Obtained NEBOSH certificate.
INVESTIGATING ACCIDENTS, MAKING RECOMMENDATIONS AND WRITING UP INVESTIGATIVE REPORTS. FOLLOWING AS CLOSELY AS POSSIBLE NEW LEGISLATION.

ALTHOUGH BASICALLY ELECTRICAL I HAVE BEEN INCHARGE OF MAINLY MECHANICAL TEAMS CONSISTING OF FITTERS, RIGGERS, WELDERS, MATES AND STOREMEN. THIS INVOLVED MAKING SURE THAT ALL THE WORK WAS CORRECTLY DOCUMENTED PRIOR TO STARTING WORK, THEN INTERPRET RESULTS AND READING BY ENQUIRING AND HOLDING MEETING WITH THE RESPECTIVE SENIOR MEN INCHARGE OF THAT PARTICULAR WORKING PARTY
TOOLBOX TALKS
I HAVE GIVEN TOOLBOX TALKS ON SAFETY, PERMIT FOR WORK SYSTEMS, WORKSHOP SAFETY.
THE PERMIT FOR WORK TALKS WAS ALSO GIVEN TO A VERIETY OF PEOPLE WHO ATTENDED COURSE AT AGECROFT TRAINING CENTRE OWNED BY NUCLEAR ELECTRIC. THIS WAS DONE INCONJUNCTION WITH A COURSE ON SWITCHGEAR MAINTENANCE.
CURRENT DUTIES
I am currently safety officer for P & B POWER ENGINEERING outside division only. Involved in safety walks on clients sites, checking and issuing safety equipment both personal and loan. Write and check safety procedure's for each job then monitor the site, if the situation changes then again revue, modify the procedures. Work to current C.D.M. regulations where required.
Contribute to the departmental budget. Check and sign orders and progress chase the orders to ensure delivery dates are met. Liase with customers to see that work has been done satisfactory.
