I was Hook up and Commissioning manager for the offshore phase of the Devil's Tower Spar project, responsible for getting successful completion and hand over to client up to first oil. Prior to this I was Project Engineering Manager on the Dominion Devil's Tower topsides Project during its construction at Harbor Island. I was also Fabrication Manager, responsible for all aspects, both commercial and technical, of the erection and outfitting of the Medusa Spar Topsides, for Murphy Oil, which had a weight of 5000t.

April 2000 - May 2001

Site Manager

AmClyde

Koreaand Alabama

Site manager for AmClyde covering both the fabrication at Hyundai's shipyard at Ulsan and the installation work at Samsung's shipyard on Koje. The units fabricated and installed were a 600 tonne King Post crane and a J-Lay system weighing 1700 tonnes, both for installation on to SaiBOS's F.D.S barge which was built at Samsung's yard. At H.H.I. I was also responsible for the fabrication of a 3800-ton offshore lift crane and a mooring system destined for installation onto a vessel being built in China for CNOOC.

During this period I was responsible for all aspects of the work, which included sorting technical problems either on site or by reverting to the design office in the states. I co-ordinated with the clients, contractors and their sub-vendors. This co-ordination also included contractual and commercial aspects of the various contracts. I had a team of Q.C. people who monitored shop floor activity and reported to myself, and I had to ensure the class authority would accept the work.

AmClyde retained me when the SaiBOS project was transferred to Alabama for completion, prior to its first contract in the Gulf of Mexico.

August 1988 - March 1999

Senior Construction Engineer

Batam Base

I transferred to McDermott's Batam base where I was a Senior Engineer, responsible for client co-ordination, manpower allocation, inter-departmental co-ordination including liasing with design teams, specification and drawing interpretation, progress monitoring, sub-contract monitoring and material delivery and general site engineering. The clients on whose projects I worked, with a staff of engineers of all disciplines under me, included Marathon, Arco. Mobile, Total, Woodside.

During my period on Batam I was designated as Engineer for the yard expansion programme, which included land reclamation, and purchasing and installing new, state of the art, fabrication equipment. I also looked after several in-house McDermott projects including 2 upgrades of offshore lifting cranes.

I also spent some time with the fabrication department as yard superintendent.

I joined McDermott's as a Junior Construction Engineer, and had attained the status of Senior Engineer prior to my leaving for Indonesia. My duties included site engineering, progress monitoring, material allocation, client liaison, interdepartmental co-ordination, drawing and specification interpretation. During this period clients on whose projects I worked were Hamilton Brothers, British Gas, Marathon, Conoco, Shell, BNOC and Chevron.

I also spent some time as a yard superintendent, until I was transferred to the Special projects department where I was 2nd in command of the yard modernisation programme, which included the justification, procurement and installation of many pieces of capital equipment.

position so I entered the construction industry and worked, principally with scaffolders, on the erection of 22 storey tower blocks in Aberdeen for Bardolin Scotia.

Principal subjects were design, plant and a project on forced air flow with minor subjects of Business Management and Offshore Oil Drilling. As this was a sandwich course, I had two periods in industry, one assisting maintenance crew in Hall Russell's shipyards as an a second in the civil engineering field with Tawse and Co of Aberdeen.
