multi-skilled engineers and 6 team leaders. Major objectives: To minimise downtime, bring workforce into line, introduce new methods of work. Plan and delegate work as required. Also responsible for minor projects and all site services.

A senior team member, controlling service work and projects in the form of modifications/additions to existing equipment and major new installations.

Involved in design, manufacture and works trials with subsequent installation and commissioning.

The work involved civil, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and control engineering principles.

I was responsible to the MD and had a small regular team of 1 assistant manager, 2 supervisors and 5 engineers. Using sub-contract labour, on a large installation this could be a workforce of around 20 site engineers.

I controlled emergency and service work and introduced annual service contracts - an idea that has proved profitable for both customer and JBS.

A 4 site organisation producing 1.6m BBLS per annum.

Reported to Prod & Dist Director, Head Brewer and Chief Engineer at different times, managing 3 Supervisors and 27 multiskilled tradesmen. Control over an engineering revenue budget of £250,000 and a further capital budget averaging £500,000.

Responsibilities

All engineering aspects of the Brewery, Keg/Cask Racking and high speed can/bottle Packaging Division at Wolverhampton.

General development work, preventive maintenance, annual overhauls, contract maintenance, compliance to statutory regulations, engineering downtime hence production performance. Directly responsible for increasing can production by 80%, bottles by 50%, casks by 30% and kegs by 20%

Achievements

'91 -'92Keg Plant installation - an £11.5m project completed to budget one month ahead of schedule despite stringent time restraints.

'93Recruited and introduced maintenance structure and strategy for above.

'94 -'95Design and installation of 2 new CIP systems. A £265k project providing automated, documented and verified hygienic cleaning to all process pipework and vessels. This eventually enabled annual savings of £120k.

'94 -'99Trend Energy Management work enabled annual savings of £150k.

'96 -'97Introduced an emergency 3-shift maintenance system for smallpack. The company profited from a very lucrative Bass contract during this time.

'97Introduced an Annual Hours scheme enabling annual savings of £130k.

'97 -'98Design of new can and bottle lines scheduled for 1999 (cancelled).

'98Closure of can and bottle operations, sale of equipment and safe clearance of the building.

'98 -'00Control systems for new £4m Brewhouse and £320k Keg Racking projects. State of the art In-Touch SCADA, PLC5's, SLC505's and Ethernet systems remotely accessible via modem links. Reductions in workforce and increased capacity/reliability enabled annual savings of £350k.

Sep 85: Maintenance Engineer - Duracell Batteries PLC

Developed manufacturing capacity by 33%. Introduced new PPM systems including condition monitoring. Increased reliability from 81% to 96%.

1974: Technician Engineer at Michelin Tyres PLC.

May 85

Evolved to European Technical expert in cycle tyre manufacture. Directly responsible for reducing manufacturing time by 50%, defects by 20% and production costs by 27% throughout the European group.

1969: Apprenticeship with Michelin Tyres PLC.

1974

An excellent apprenticeship recognised and copied by the ITB, covering all aspects of engineering.
