Built Estates Advisor (M&E) June 2005 to Present

Built Estates Advisor (BEA M&E) for the Home Counties Region of Defence Estates monitoring and auditing the delivery of maintenance services by the MOD's contractor, 'Landmarc', to military (army) establishments, including all mechanical, electrical and structural assets. Carrying out physical audits of work carried out and reviewing systems and processes employed by the contractor. Writing audit reports for the Military Site owner on the performance of the contractor. Acting as an intermediary between the Military Site owner and the Contractor to ensure satisfactory and efficient maintenance is carried out in compliance with all relevant legislation. Providing technical advice to other Defence Estates staff and Military Site owners. Representing Defence Estates, as and when required, at meetings held between the Military Site owner and the Contractor to resolve disputes and to facilitate a reasonable and cost beneficial solution.

Managing teams of electrical and mechanical staff to install an Ion Separation (ISEP) plant for Nitrate removal on a Thames Water water treatment site, estimated project value £1M. Plant includes the MCC, all instrumentation and cabling, Salt Saturators, 4m turntable, 20 resin vessels, pipework from DN25 UPVC to DN300 Stainless Steel plus auxiliary pump skids. Responsible for pressure testing of all UPVC and StSt lines from 6barg to 9barg. Carrying out both dry and wet commissioning with the Principal Contractor (Costains) and the client. Writing Risk Assessments/Method Statements and liasing with the client for flow and discharge requirements.

Supervising mechanical aspects of the project, including: organising and managing set up meetings with contractors; carrying out site inductions; assessing risk assessments and method statements; interfacing programme resource requirements with civils; site management of mechanical contractors and sub-contractors; managing and certifying dry commissioning.

Responsible for Commissioning Manuals to be completed to specification and to time scale, manage snagging list, manage all site tagging of plant, site signage, hold Internal Progress Meetings to ensure progress.

Mechanical Supervisor Swinford WTW Nov 2001 to Sept 2002

Managing direct labour and contractors on site, delivering a £3.8M project to refurbish and upgrade a 105 Ml/d water treatment plant comprising all mechanical plant associated with rapid gravity filters, dissolved air flotation, chemical treatment, etc.

Ensuring that the mechanical installation is carried out efficiently, to programme, and in accordance with the Specification and Company requirements, in an entirely safe manner. Chairing contractor progress meetings. Carrying out site safety inspections. Maintaining project logs and other records. Interviewing and appointing temporary contract skilled staff. The Employer's Requirements (ERs) for work required are set out by Slough Borough Council to define the technical specifications of work required for the Contract; the interpretation of these, and their practical delivery, are the responsibility of the Site Contracts Manager. This is achieved by negotiating the best cost/quality solution to meet the requirements of the ERs while still satisfying all 3 parties involved (Slough Borough Council, the main Contractor and Wicken Engineering) and the end user i.e. the residents.

UNICORN CONSULTANCY SERVICES LTD

Building Services Engineer (M&E) Oct 2000 to Feb 2001

Four month temporary contract as Building Services Engineer for Engineering Consultancy administering M&E building services maintenance contracts for Surrey County Council. Personally responsible for work specification, preparation of tenders, identification and supervision of contractors, project management and post project verification for time, cost and quality. Projects originated from responsive, programmed and emergency works and were to an individual value in excess of £80k. Project scope included: asbestos removal, heating, lighting, ventilation, water systems in a diverse range of buildings type and use, such as: schools, special needs and elderly care homes, police stations and courts, secure accommodation, libraries and council offices.

THAMES WATER PLC 1983 to 1999

Front line management and mechanical and electrical expertise in the largest Water Company in the UK; specifically in Wastewater - dealing with sewage pumping, treatment and disposal.

Area Technical Support Manager 1998 to 1999

Providing technical support to Thames Water's South East Area Operations by managing a multi disciplined team delivering installation of new works either directly or via external contractors; process troubleshooting; Health and Safety Statutory Inspections and Records; administrative support to area staff. Also responsible for defining and delivering new works installations. Revenue budget £1.7M. Capital programme budget £500K Responsibilities and achievements include:

· Developed and introduced maintenance regimes based on Condition Monitoring.

· Introduced plant criticality assessments to prioritise breakdown response and routine maintenance requirements.

· Defined and introduced new working patterns for technicians to increase productivity.

· Mentored a Technical Trainee to become "Apprentice of the Year" at his College and within the Company.

· Defined and introduced policy of refurbishing seals delivering ongoing annual savings in excess of £200k.

Providing a mechanical and electrical maintenance service to Operations in Thames Water's South West Sector. Managing more than 60 Technicians, 5 Team Leaders, 3 Support Engineers and budgetary accountability for £2.3M. Responsibilities and achievements include:
