Part-time Lecturer, Creative Writing

The creation and delivery of MACLS’s Creative Writing curriculum to different groups of adults with an interest in drama, prose and poetry. I attended a number of support workshops outlining guidelines to new and aspiring tutors and how to inspire interest in lectures, seminars and study programmes as well as how to implement Medway Council’s wide ranging equal opportunities programme and health and safety policy.

Joined Hays as a cycle courier for four months before working in the control room as assistant cycle controller, logging and taking calls, plotting riders co-ordinates and directing pick ups over the radio. Eventually moved into the customer service section, arranging the prompt pick up and delivery of parcels both nationally and internationally while dealing tactfully with the needs and complaints of customers.

Throughout London’s Brit-pop era I worked as Manager responsible for running two busy popular bars in Camden’s main small music venue, from cash handling, ordering, hiring staff, invoicing, marketing and daily house-keeping to setting-up and distributing promotions, liaising with TV, press and publishing outlets, musicians and A and R personnel, whether in person, over the telephone or by fax or email.

Working on a contract for the Tester in Charge and his Assistant where I helped create, write and proof a considerable legal document The Willesden Site Testing and Commissioning Plan. This risk assessment outlined the various measures involved in upgrading and replacing the control rooms, signal boxes and signals on Railtrack’s Euston to Watford stretch of the West Coast Main Line railway.

Editorial position in a small newspaper office. Organising the layout of the two-weekly edition of the newspaper. Commissioning articles, copy typing, researching and proof reading, database creation and press release compilation. Catering Worker

Regular supervisory roles working in and around Leicester in the catering trade in factory, warehouse, restaurant and kitchen environments. I spent most of my time on long-term contracts at Walkers Crisps, Walkers Pies and also worked at Leicester University, various NHS Hospital sites and The Shires Shopping Centre, adhering to and supervising others as to health and safety and hygiene procedures.
Assistant Manager

Working in a managerial capacity at McDonald’s before and during university. After an initial intense 6 month training course covering all aspects of the catering industry, including food hygiene and health and safety procedures and legislation, I undertook and achieved the McDonald’s Training exam, a more in-depth qualification enabling me to officially train prospective workers, although I had been teaching staff members for some months.
