Employment History

(Nov 2006 to Apr 2008)

Journalist

London, UK

I still work in a freelance capacity for this magazine, the UK's best-selling publication for lesbians and bisexual women. I spent six months in the offices coming up with stories, sourcing images, liaising with PRs and assisting in fashion shoots
I wrote everything from four page features on human rights abuses, to humorous columns on dating, to interviews with people from all walks of life. I now write for them on an ad-hoc freelance basis in my spare time.

(Jun 2007 to Feb 2008)

Editorial Assistant/web editor

London, UK

▪ As part of the not-for-profit organisation, the Chartered Quality Institute, Qualityworld was a monthly publication that went out to around 12,000 members and subscribers in the UK and overseas.

▪ I did day-to-day admin tasks as well as proofing, researching and liaising with printers. Many of the articles were highly technical and required close attention to detail.

▪ I wrote features on topics such as leadership and Heathrow's new Terminal 5, as well as interviewing high-profile business figures like former men's mag editor James Brown, Dragon's Den judge Rachel Elnaugh and human rights icon and head of equal opportunities at Nabarro, Sue Ashtiany.

▪ INform was a quarterly quality auditing e-newsletter for IRCA, of which I took over the commissioning, news sourcing and editing. I decided to break up the text heavy, bland articles with more images, box outs and give it a more international feel. The feedback was positive - readership increased and subscriber numbers went up. I worked with a small team of experts to ensure it remained relevant to the auditing field to create six different language versions.

(Feb 2007 to Apr 2007)

Freelance copywriter

London, UK

I wrote quizzes, copy, blogs and liaised with the production team for this Channel 4 micro-site for LGBT teens that tied in with a special season of broadcasting.

(Jan 2006 to Dec 2006)

Journalist

Eastbourne, UK

▪ A manic deadline rota meant I had to be supremely quick on my feet, adaptable and a militant multi-tasker to produce accurate, engaging copy fast. I was responsible for contributing copy and laying up pages for five monthly news titles for the emigration market, as well as two monthly overseas property magazines, World of property and Property France, and an annual brochure for the company's public expo 'Emigrate now!'
▪ I also spoke to audiences of around 200 people at these expos on emigration, buying property and cultural adjustments.
▪ I wrote for the website and helped re-design the publications and website.

Education

(Sep 2002 to May 2005)

University of London, Royal Holloway College
