Managing Editor / Debates Editor

Responsible for Operations, Editorial control, marketing and recruitment for Reading Online News. During my time in this role I have had full autonomy under the company, and have utilised that in developing a professional editorial team who have worked together to achieve the company’s targets for the publication inside the first year. In addition to orchestrating the marketing campaigns which have led to the success of the publication, I have been responsible for developing Reading Online News’ themes and editorial guidelines, in the hope that the successes of the first twelve months can be continued into successive years, particularly with the cost-intensive launch of the paper-form publication later in 2008. In addition, I have taken it upon myself to sub-edit content delivered to the magazine by editors on the day of publication.

Achievements

• Recruited a successful and professional editorial team.
• Ensured the complete delivery of all editions on deadline and within tight budget constraints.
• Ran a number of successful marketing campaigns, increasing market penetration from 0 to around 18% inside the first 12 months.
• Negotiated budget endowment from the Quixotic Media Group for both expansion of Reading Online News and the development of subsequent projects in this area.

• Commission, Editing and Publication of Bunny 2: The Book of Perpetual Bewilderment, by Huw Davies.
• Negotiation of Distribution rights for Bunny: the Book of Random, by Huw Davies, and Doctor Sketchy’s Rainy Day Colouring Book, by Molly Crabapple, and subsequently publication rights for the former.
• Successful purchase of Reading based freight company Akin-Link Freight.
• Development of Quixotic Book Retail in Reading (Formerly Books To The Ceiling), resulting a significant increase in the revenue and stability of the Quixotic Media Group.
• Development of Quixotic News Division.
• Introduction of the Quixotic Group record label and the subsequent signing of a number of artists, with launch of products in May 2008.
• Sub-editing of The Maker’s Mark project.
• Project management and sub-editing of The Fated Conflict Websaga, a collection of short stories acting as a repeated hook and viral marketing campaign for the Fated Conflict Series.
