Within the business context of Phones4u, defined the roles of Solution and Technical Architects, within an IT delivery lifecycle process.
Produce an IT solution design process document and the recommendation for an enterprise architect tool from shortlist of ARIS and Casewise.
Provided numerous quick “tactical” assessments for business generated IT change requests, with options and recommendations.
Identify third party solutions, infrastructure costs and bespoke development day efforts for:
• Service Management, including the implementation of ITIL best practise.
• Web Analytics, including the integration with current eBusiness working practises.
• Workforce Management, including the integration with Cisco Telephony and Siebel campaigns
• Enterprise Project Management, including the identification of tactical and strategic options.

Role within project was as the Technical Architect in the review of issues and identification of resolutions arising since project entered trial stage.
The review, including the architectural documentation of system, allowed a number of key issues to be identified and resolved. This gave the Customer confidence to allow the trial to complete and live operations commence. All other issues were added to a risk log, with recommended solutions, for their resolution within next release of project. Issues include no common coding standard or methodology, hardware and software single points of failure, no session persistence between web servers, lack of error handling, no performance monitoring and likely performance inhibitors as use of system increased.

Project: Barclays Bank – Caseworks System – Manchester

Solution is Staffware Business Process Management software integrated with J2EE Intranet web pages. This will allow the outsourcing of parts of the business process.
Role within project was as the Technical Architect in the review and delivery of design identified by Staffware and then undertaken by LogicaCMG as a fixed price contract.
Designed and Developed the Staffware process flows.

Project: Citizens Advice - Caseworks System - Swindon and Reading

Solution is a 30,000 user base using Win 2000 VB based client screens that access a Win 2000 Oracle database over SOAP using transactional COM+ components running on a network load balanced application server farm. The application is hosted by HP and is supported by a Help Desk at Swindon
Role within project was as the Technical Architect in identifying and providing a number of solutions to meet customer requirement in terms of performance of system. After a number of months the system under load was intermittently failing.
Solution required provision of a Test Harness (developed in VB), a number of configuration changes within Oracle and COM+ and a number of VB and C++ code fixes to third party supplied SOAP and COM+ components.
Solution also required close interactions with third party supplier and HP particularly on the correct configuration and use of Windows Network Load Balancing software.
Solution has now won the “Best Project – Government to Citizen” in the Government Computing BT Syntegra Awards for Innovation 2004 (http://www.kablenet.com/innovation)

Project: Office of Fair Trading - Caseworks System - based in London LogicaCMG

Solution is based on a centralised Microsoft SQL server database, with a XP rich client built with bespoke VB based screens, accessing the database via MTS. The application integrates with standard 3rd party products, including Tibco and Post Code Address. Crystal Reports are used to provide management reports.
Role within project was as the Systems Architect in identifying a number of possible solutions both in terms of Hardware and Software to meet Customer requirement in terms of performance of system. After a number of years the performance had deteriorated to an un-acceptable level.
