A versatile Technical Author with extensive experience in Marine Electronics and associated software, Utilities Engineering and Information Technology and extensive General Knowledge. Able to produce comprehensive, well-styled and readable documentation to deadlines in a range of disciplines including S1000D and AECMA due to the rapid comprehension of tasks, attention to detail, consistency and good organisational skills, Comfortable in Customer facing roles, contract negotiations and project planning. The majority of my work has involved liaison with engineers, writing sales and technical manuals for both hardware and software products and producing customer literature. I have also been involved with the training of staff and customers on products and procedures, a skill I initially gained as a fireman.

Products include leisure marine equipment, naval/defence work including Type 45 Destroyer and interactive training software.
I am competent in using Framemaker 7 and SGML, Robohelp, Visio, Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Project. I have attended a Framemaker template course and have gained extensive knowledge and practical experience in the creation of Framemaker templates. I have a working knowl¬edge of Arbortext Epic and Content Management Systems including Idiom WorldServer and Corena.

Technical Communicator

Joined Raymarine, a marine electronics manufacturer, as a Technical Communicator in March 2003 producing a range of user manuals for various projects which include VHF Radios, Hardware and Computer Software. This work ranged from a simple Ethernet coupler to a fully integrated system containing chart plotter, radar, sonar and closed circuit television sub-systems. The range of manuals includes Instal¬lation Guides, Quick Reference cards and reference manuals. These manuals were pro¬duced using Adobe Framemaker 7.0, Illustrator 10.3, PhotoShop 7.0 and Paint Shop Pro. I also converted many of these documents into HTML format for web publication and created help files using Web Works Publisher Professional 7.0. This work included the creation of help documents for integration in the product and web publication. I am also competent in using Visio, Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Project.

Technical Author

Thomas Sanderson, Waterlooville

Joined Thomas Sanderson at Waterlooville as their Technical Author, producing a range of manuals for use by direct sales staff, installation engineers and supervisory staff in both Conservatory Blinds and Patio Awnings divisions, as well as customer information and instruction materials.
Documents were produced using Adobe Framemaker 6.0, Adobe Illustrator, Paint Shop Pro and True Cad 32.
Whilst at Thomas Sanderson I studied and passed the Cambridge Certificate in Desktop Pub¬lishing and attended South Downs College for courses in Adobe PhotoShop and Quark Xpress.

Previous Employment History

Employment History: 1970 - 1977 Having left school at eighteen I joined West Sussex Fire Brigade as an operational fireman, reaching the rank of Leading Fireman before being medically discharged after seven and a half years.

1977 – 1982- I worked for English National Opera as a Fire/Safety Officer.

1982 - 1994 - I then worked for various retail companies as a Manager.

1994 – 1997 - I then worked as a Service Engineer for a company that specialised in marine fire fighting equipment and fixed installations.
