| I have over 20 years experience working within the public and voluntary sectors. My most recent positions have included Acting Chief Executive and Director of Policy and Research within a leading national charity. Prior to these positions I held posts with Consumers' Association as well as the Audit Commission. I have also been Chair of a Housing Association, a non-executive board member with the Commission for Patient and Public Involvement in Health and Chair of the UK Patients Forum. I am currently working on a consultancy basis with a national cancer charity on the development of a strategic plan. |

Consultant - strategic planning
LondonI am working with The Prostate Cancer Charity on the development of a 5-year strategy. My responsibilities include working with the Chief Executive and Senior Management Team to develop and refine over-arching goals as well as detailed targets and measures. I am also facilitating input from across the organisation as well as from key external stakeholders.

Acting Chief Executive/Director, Policy & Research
LondonI was employed by Breast Cancer Care in 2002 to establish a new Policy and Research Department. In 2005 I was asked by the Board of Trustees to take on the additional responsibility of Acting Chief Executive to provide sick leave/maternity cover. During this time I worked on a number of significant projects and areas of work including the development of our strategic plan and a review of the role of service users and volunteers. I also led on internal communications and diversity.
My role as Director of Policy and Research involved responsibility for setting up a new Directorate: with a team of 10 staff and an annual budget of £400K. Key achievements of the Directorate include:
• publication of a national policy report on the future of breast cancer treatment
• research on breast awareness within diverse communities (published)
• the launch of a task force and campaign on secondary breast cancer
• research partnerships with two universities (supported by external funding)

Health Policy and Campaigns, Principal Advisor
Consumer's Association, LondonI was employed in a new position with responsibility for developing the organisation’s health policy and campaigning function. I managed all health campaign research and co-ordination of related media and public affairs activity. Key achievements included successful campaigns to:
• extend the legislative remit of the Health Service Ombudsman
• secure a Health Select Committee review of private health care
• initiate an OFT investigation into dentistry charges
