| Overview: | I am a full-time writer, with two contemporary novels having been published. I've worked as ghost writer over the past decade, writing academic, biographical, and business books. | |
CV
I’ve had two brilliantly reviewed contemporary novels published with a major publisher (Orion Publishing House in London, one of London’s most prestigious publishers, not the small Orion press based in Utah) as well as one, humorous, non-fiction book (published by Pocket Press). The first novel’s film rights were sold, and the non-fiction book won the David Thomas Trust Writing award (for non-fiction). My first play (published by New Theatre Productions) has been put on at the Lewisham Theatre in London. Recent ghost writing experience includes a memoir by a survivor of Saddam’s Iraq, a memoir from the army chaplain first to arrive in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina, the autobiography of a WWII pilot brought up in a polygamous Morman family, the story of a young girl brought up within an Islamic cult, and the autobiography of a woman who has taken on twelve children of every possible race, only to later form an interracial adoption agency. Recent editing experience includes substantive solo editing for books published by Cambridge University Press and Indiana University Press. Recent articles I've written have appeared in international publications including the Guardian, The Contemporary Review, Verbatim and The Strad. As a published author, I have experience not only in writing but also in selling manuscripts; I am also an elected member of the Society of Authors. I’m London-based but US-born, and can write in either language! I pride myself on being able to slip into anyone’s individual “voice”. I am constantly online, and have Skype, while ghost writing clients I have worked for have been located in the US, Iraq, Israel, and Australia. References can be supplied upon request, attesting to my speed, reliability, supportiveness and flexibility, as I only joined Guru recently, and get most of my work from private clients. I also offer limitless re-edits, at original cost, until you are satisfied. Don't hesitate to access www.alicemcveigh.com for more details. AM |
Employment History
(Jan 2000 to Dec 2007)
freelance ghostwriter
After devoting several years to my daughter, I found that I lacked the inspiration to write more novels, so I set up as a ghost writer. Since that time I have "ghosted" books as varied as an academic work for Indiana University Press on Vivaldi's harmonic structure by a Hebrew-speaking scholar, a memoir by a survivor of Saddam’s Iraq, a memoir from the army chaplain first to arrive in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina, the autobiography of a WWII pilot brought up in a polygamous Morman family, a book on godparenting, the story of a young girl brought up within an Islamic cult, and a book on the psychology of martial art.
(Jan 1990 to Sep 2000)
freelance novelist and playwright
While freelancing in top London orchestras all over the world (I trained as an orchestral cellist) I began to write on the side. Orion published my first two novels in hardback and paperback, to critical acclaim. (While the Music Lasts and Ghost Music--contemporary, literary novels). I was also lucky enough to have my first play, Beating Time, published by New Theatre Productions and put on at the Lewisham Theatre, London. Then I had my only child, a daughter.
Education
(Sep 1978 to Jul 1980)
Indiana University School of Music
Bachelor of Music, with distinction in performance (cello)
