The requirement for this role is to build and deploy a new MPLS network across various sites in the UK. The client is going through a substantial period of change as the current network heavily dependant on the parent company, which was di-vested. The project involved commission of new corporate head office with the deployment of Cisco call manager along with LAN infrastructure with the provisioning of new Internet connectivity and firewall platforms. Deployment of MRTG for LAN network monitoring and Orion NPM platform for WAN router monitoring and capacity management. Included within this project was the integration of a legacy IVR system which was primary to the client’s business activities. The legacy IVR was integrated into Cisco call manager which proved essential to helping the clients business move forward.

The role for Cheshire Council was undertaking site surveys in Council buildings and schools and document site details relating to the physical network and environmental, and specify work required for site readiness, for the deployment of Avaya IPT for the location.
The implementation of network equipment and cabling to prepare sites for IPT. Onsite management of cabling provider to implement local cabling to spec and County Council standards. The configuration of QoS and VLANs over the broadband WAN, network regions and LANs. Maintain documentation to a high standard and handle any decommissioning of legacy equipment in line with CCC policy.
Working within an ITIL frame work covering the network associated applications. The work involved raised and completing change requests for customer facing services delivered by the Council

The requirement was to build document and support networks in the Test and Pre-Deployment stage for both Military and Commercial environments delivering solutions to over 300,000 end clients throughout the UK and Global operations.

Providing migration key point of contact to supplier management to ensure delivery and implementation of external connectivity.

Working as a network engineer in a team whose aim is to successfully migrate a large number of WAN circuits and associated equipment from existing comms rooms / data centers into 2 new data centers. Creating design documents from current infrastructure to fully documenting the final solution using Visio and Microsoft word.
The role was to configure and implement a layer 3-network based on 6509 switches in the core with layer 3 uplinks to 4500 series switches with layer 3 VLAN’s deployed.
Migration of the data centre involved migrating some 196 circuits using 7507 routers. The total implementation for the campus is approx 3500 user base. Raising change requests coordinating change. Liaising with business units and change management team.
Use of Ciscoworks 2000 to automate config backups and assist fault resolution.
Ongoing implementation of projects onsite, liaison and working with external suppliers and Telco’s to ensure delivery and feedback to project managers.

Architect and project manage the IP address change to bring Newport within the European corporate model. Deploy network management platform with scaleable framework. BT Consulting (Formally BT Syntegra), on a client site for a central government department. Providing 3rd line technical support for the national network. The support of Cisco and 3Com network devices was the main role. The use of GSI services with the configuration of firewalls running Checkpoint and Gauntlet. Supporting the various teams with more complex and high levels faults, this encompasses project-based work also.
The support of legacy OSI networks bridged across the various data centres. The use of network analysis programs to assist me in diagnosing the faults. The work also includes bridging OSI traffic across a multi-vendor environment. Changing access control lists to control OSI, IPX and advanced telephony. Configuring spanning-tree to provide a resilient path, on both Cisco and 3Com. Using both Cisco NAM and NGenius along with products such as Ethereal are used to provide trend reports and assist in fault diagnosis.
