Undertook development of a new derivative of an existing ambulatory medical device. Formed an informal partnership with a colleague who developed the hardware. Delivered the completed product in 6 months, ahead of schedule and under budget. Software written in C on an MSP430 platform. Integrated Bluetooth transceiver into an existing design for a future derivative.

Joined the retained service following an appeal, and just for the change. It can be hot, wet, scary, fun, boring, tiring, exciting, with lots of teamwork & training. Certainly makes a change from writing software! Doesn't affect my other work or commitments significantly; will leave if I have to :-(

Audiological equipment.
Responsible for completing the development of a new handheld medical product whose development had foundered: Respecified product, cancelled existing development contracts, organised a virtual team to redesign critical mechanical, electrical, pneumatic audiological & electronic assemblies, & personally rewrote the software. Developed new analysis algorithms, user interface, drivers, integrated IrDA stack. Software written in C on a TMS320F2811 platform. Product in production. Second release already written. Developed prototype for a second audiological product – developed high-speed FFT & other spectral analysis library routines.

Anti-virus software.
Responsible for full product life cycle & strategy of “Enterprise Manager” toolset. Market/competitor analysis, requirements capture & prioritisation, product specification, co-ordination of cross-functional teams on product development & introduction, PR contact on product-related matters, internal and external presentations, primary marketing collateral, developing relations with external consultants

Internet set-top boxes.
Responsible for the introduction of software development & test processes, project management, budgeting, recruitment, appraisals & performance reviews, and general management of ten software & test staff.

Refrigeration management systems.
Responsible for the management of mechanical / hardware / software development, project proposals, project management, budgeting, capital acquisition, recruitment, contract negotiation, general management of nine engineers plus contractors spread over two sites, member of senior management team.

Rose to senior position responsible for the full budgetary & project control for department of 25 staff (c. £1.3M). Included organisation & management of a DTI-funded LINK grant project with Oxford University.

Involved in the design & development of the world's first two & four track digital audio recorders & mixers.
