Employment History

(Feb 2006 to Feb 2007)

Administration Officer

Stradishall

I was employed as an Administrative Officer working for both the Probation and Psychology department. I ensured that all paperwork met deadlines as instructed by the Auditor’s guidelines. I was also responsible for the course referral procedure in that I dealt with prisoners’ requests to be included on a course. I also attended reviews for prisoners having completed the ‘Enhanced Thinking Skills’ or ‘Cognitive Skills Booster’ courses. This role involved working towards national targets with one mutual goal – to reduce reoffending. A large proportion of my job was implementing and using databases, arranging and attending regular meetings in order to encourage communication across departments.

(Jan 2006 to Feb 2006)

Marketing Assistant

Here I shadowed the Marketing Manager for 2 weeks’ work experience. I was involved in the organising of various Exhibitions Worldwide and was also responsible for dealing with promotional material requests. I ordered samples and researched suppliers in attempting to find stationary that would suit the HID image and logo. In addition I had the opportunity to be involved in the decision making process in the designing of the “HID Stand” to be used during Exhibitions.

(Feb 2000 to Jul 2000)

Head Receptionist/Adminstration Officer

Standard Life Assurance Company , West End

My main responsibility was Switchboard Operator but the position incorporated a range of duties such as ordering couriers, receiving and organising faxes, ordering stationery on Pumas, meeting and greeting Consultants, their support and their clients, mail shots, receiving and sorting post, and other aspects of general office administration. However, second to the switchboard, audio and copy typing took up the biggest proportion of my day. To do this I used the Window’s packages, Word v6.0 and Excel v5.0 and PowerPoint v4.0. The highlight of my job was organising conferences which involved booking rooms/venues, prepping the location, arranging refreshments, and post-event, ensuring the area was ready for the next conference.

(Jun 1999 to Feb 2000)

PA/Marketing Assistant

The Pulse clinic , Westminster

My responsibilities included manning reception, administration, diary management, booking rooms and organising meetings between staff and the partners. The aspect I enjoyed most was promoting the company through various marketing and advertising tools such as designing promotional material that would attract customers to try various treatments and liaising with the media in an attempt to gain as much coverage as the budget would stretch.

(Nov 1998 to May 1999)

Market Researcher

National Opinion Polls , Wimbledon

As a consumer interviewer I conducted both residential and commercial surveys with the public for various clients, mostly IT companies and magazines. This role included meeting targets which I took great pleasure in regularly exceeding. One of the skills I gained through this role was an excellent telephone manner.

Education

(Sep 2000 to Jun 2005)

University of Surrey

A Bsc (Hons) in Psychology classified as a 2:1.

A Research based degree giving me the skills to identify an interest, study its history or background, and offer solutions to complex problems. This degree also equipped me for adhering to tight deadlines when producing reports or presentations, time management skills when preparing for work output, and communication skills necessary when conducting experiments involving people. This science degree also gave me the advantage of acquiring excellent numerical skills.

(Sep 1996 to Jun 1999)

Lansdowne College

A-levels including French, Spanish and English Literature that equipped me with the ability to converse in two more languages, and the ability to develop my analytical skills.

(Sep 1994 to Jun 1996)

Queen’s College

GCSEs including Higher Maths, French, English, Theatre Arts, Spanish and Science (double award) which gave me an all round solid foundation in knowledge and skills.

Additional Information

2002/2003 - In Egypt I completed my Divemaster exam (scuba diving) and became a professional member of P.A.D.I.

Temporary work/Work Experience

Whilst studying I temped for REED recruitment agency which involved working in the reception in customer services roles for various high profile companies. I also worked as a waitress in a few bars and restaurants in central London. These all gave me good customer service skills teaching me how best to deal with customers, even the more challenging ones! I have also co-ordinated 6 weddings based in London, Suffolk, and Essex.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

I am privileged to have had regular contact with a number of nationalities that has allowed me to develop multi-lingual abilities. To varying extents from conversational to fluency, I speak, Swedish, French, Spanish, Egyptian Arabic and a little Greek. This allows me in my opinion to be particularly apt to communicate with people with a range of nationalities.

I have been assessed as being advanced in the following computer software packages; Microsoft Word for Windows, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook. I am in the process of implementing and designing my new website which can currently be found at:

www.underwater-utopia.com

Primarily I am a Freelance Writer writing copy for both magazines and websites. I have an extensive portfolio including my most recent work. I write for charities as well as businesses, offering the marriage of writing and marketing skills I have in order to produce accurate copy of an excellent quality sure to get those readers interested.

INTERESTS

On a less serious note, I like many, love travelling, exploring cultures different to my own and meeting people from all walks of life. Scuba-diving for me is a recreational sport that I thoroughly enjoy and I hope to pursue it to a technical level as well as hoping, like many, to explore most of the underwater wonders of the world within my lifetime. I also have a keen interest in marine biology.

The passions I get pleasure from on a daily basis are music, theatre and film, and writing. They serve as an outlet for my creative streak which has brought me much enjoyment through the years. Whenever possible I take great pleasure in writing, whether they are blogs for The Times or The Guardian, travel diaries or reviews which I submit as copy to local and national newspapers.
