Specifying, designing, implementing, Project Managing and documenting a Business Intelligence system using SQL Server 2005 focusing on SSIS and various data sources with SUS (Secondary User Service) as the primary data source with a view to extending this data warehouse in the future to extract other data sources such as SLAM (NHS finance system) and QOF (Quality Outcome Framework). The SUS data sources included Payment By Results and Extract mart. Information extracted from these marts include Accident and Emergency, Spells, Outpatients and Episodes of care. The main objective of this information system is to empower the Information Analysts to more effectively respond to reporting requirements.

During April negotiated some part time work from home at Stockport PCT to deliver SQL Server Analysis Services cubes (SSAS) cubes. The business objective of these SSAS cubes is to deliver quality investigation reports on NHS Payment by Results data sets.

Performing a variety of roles such as Database Analyst / Development, Business Analysis and Project Management. Creating the following example deliverables; - reporting tools, data warehouse server specifications, risk logs, data dictionaries, requirements analysis documents and 18 Weeks Patient Referral to Treatment reports, exposure to various data sets such as Connecting for Health Secondary Uses Service (SUS) and Commissioning Data Sets (CDS). Various reports were created using HRG (Health Care Resource Groups) and OPCS (Office for Population Censuses and Surveys) to perform more detailed analysis on this information. These reports were typically delivered to senior managers and directors within the PCT.

Senior IT Officer within Large Local Authority and Web Developer for Local Churches.
Responsibilities: Database design & development, focusing on business-critical, technical and strategic needs within this authority. Including implementation of all stages of the Software Development Life Cycle in MS Access and MS SQL Server using SQL, VBA, Visual Basic, VB.NET and Crystal Reports. I provide technical advice to other database designers and always ensure use of clear specifications and documentation to empower users to design their own queries and reports. I have delivered cascade training to an entire division of 300 users.

Various temporary assignments Including training of supervisors / managers in the use of Excel; designing web sites using FrontPage 2000; and designing databases using MS Access 97 and VBA for the Civil Service.

This position was part of an overall plan, gaining experience in serving poor communities, to enable me to use my IT skills in the future within my own business, to train and develop those who have been in poverty.
Responsibilities: Full time volunteer. I led shifts in the night-shelter and undertook managerial duties supporting staff, with responsibility for 18 residents at the same time. Working with very damaged individuals with challenging needs. General domestic duties.
Skills: A very intensive year in which many people-skills were learned; dealing with being constantly stretched physically, mentally and emotionally. I gained vital experience in management and relating to people and found that I excelled in this role.

Maintaining and adding functionality to a vehicle recognition system. Created a program, VDB (Vehicle DataBase) which stored details of vehicles. This was a 32 bit Windows application, written in Visual C++, with 2 versions: DAO and ODBC. I also created VQM (Vehicle Query Manager) in MS Access inc. VBA and SQL, which searches the output of VDB. Vehicle Query Manager and Vehicle DataBase were extended to cope with storing and searching very large amounts of data, i.e. 30Gb+ in an uncompressed format. The Visual C++ source code was fully incorporated into source code version control similar to Visual Source Safe.

Maintaining a back office restaurant / hospitality system which was based around a mainly DOS platform Stock Control package called StockLink, written in C and C++ using Btrieve as the database engine.

Enhanced a Retail POS application, designed in C. Created a customer accounts / loyalty facility, and upgrade utilities for use within the POS. The C-tree database engine was used to meet database requirements. Technical documentation was created incl. creation of the data dictionary for this product.

Designed a Fashion Stock Control System. This system was linked to an integrated accounts package in a language called TAS Professional. For the Fashion System the customers’ requests were dealt with direct. I also designed a prototype of a Restaurant Point of Sale System using C / Object Orientation. I made this multi-user. I also completed various other maintenance / enhancement projects.

Designed a Sales Analysis application for the above. I used a relational database for this and carried out all the stages of analysis and design, from agreeing the specification to implementing the project. The project was well structured and documented.

Programmed an I.C.L Mainframe in Cobol focusing on report writing for stock control.
