Personally developed corporate and operational budgets in close liaison with client's chairman and MD. Firm subsequently retained for Commercial and Project Management functions. Personally led tendering and estimating activity. Also handled contract negotiations with Shell, BP, Phillips, Chevron; successfully managing large extra work claims for the client.

Boele Shipyard & Engineering, Rotterdam. Field study and report on Arabian Gulf business climate and joint venture possibilities in the field of ship repairs and conversions. Also included civil engineering prospects for joint sponsor, Nederhorst United of the Netherlands.

SONATRACH, Algeria. Team study and report on equipment, operations and budgets for a central maintenance facility for various gas turbines and driven machinery, located on the eastern region oil pipelines system.

Burmeister & Wain, Copenhagen. Team study of market potential in North Sea oil & gas construction work. Personally led in depth analysis of clients likely cost competitiveness in the established market already dominated by UK and Dutch players.

General Management role continued as Zenith became involved in single lift power generator module design. Also drilling rig/drilling ship design in joint venture with KCA Drilling.

Ruston Gas Turbines Limited (Employed)
Senior Sales Projects Engineer responsible for sales initiatives, tender preparation and contract negotiation in respect of the range of Ruston Turbines. Sold first Ruston units in Holland to Gasunie and the first ever Ruston turbine compressor unit to SONELGAZ for pipeline duty in Algeria. Extensive work with turbine generators and pump sets for pipelines and terminals in North Africa (SONATRACH in Algeria & OASIS in Libya). Responsible for sales work in USA and UK North Sea including Shell Auk Platform and the large order for all the BP Forties Field gas turbine pump and generator sets. Similar field work in Canada and Australia. Numerous CHP studies completed.

AEI (Manchester) Limited. Sales and Contract Management (Employed)
Section Leader responsible for all gas turbine tender and sales work. The Group concentrated on aero derivatives. Power turbines, gearboxes, generators, controls, switchgear and transformers were all manufactured by Group companies. Tender preparation consequently involved high degree of co-ordination in respect of these parties within the Group.
Personally sold the first aero derivative in the world to be installed for base load operation at Esso, Milford Haven. Similar unit sold to Shell Oil, Carrington plant. Other firsts were gas turbine auxiliaries Hinckley Point “A” nuclear station and the first AEI gas turbines sold in the USA, to Boston Edison.
