CV

I have over 3 years of experience writing for online and print publications ranging from news stories to reviews to features centered around the entertainment industry, specifically film and games.
I've also experience at editing online content (Close-Up Games and The Smell of Napalm) and with marketing copywriting with corporate clients for both B2B and B2C.

I'm also a web and graphic designer with over 5 years of experience working with HTML, CSS, Photoshop, Flash, PHP and mySQL and have found these skills invaluable when contributing to online publications in terms of content management and usability. As well as front-end design I have been involved in the construction of several large CMS systems that act as the PHP interface between the user and the database. Several highlights include...

Multimap - I was part of the web development team who redesigned the entire public site and implemented a back-end editor using openCMS.

Real Movie News - All content on the site was inputted into the CMS.

Drew's Photography - The site editor could add/edit/delete portfolios/galleries/images through the CMS.

Part of the web development team who redesigned the entire Multimap public site with the new API at it's centre. This involved plenty of front-end work but also implementing a back-end CMS (using Java based openCMS) for use by other teams for updating purposes.

Web Developer/Writer/Editor

www.realmovienews.com

Formally called The Z Review, I began working on the site as a web developer and helped managed the mass of content available on the site. I then contributed reviews before also editing and posting daily news updates. I also helped design and build the CMS from scratch that would allow editors/writers to work on any of the content for the site.

Professional Qualifications

MetLab – Metropolitan University (May 2006 - Present)
A year long part-time course where each student takes a commercial idea and develops it into a feature length screenplay to take to Cannes 2007. I work with a professional script editor and each week a guest speaker talks about a particular aspect of the film industry.

The Script Factory’s Script Reading Course (February 2006)
An intensive 2 day course spread over several weeks in which time we were given homework assignments to report back on produced and unproduced feature screenplays. The lessons covered key areas of a reader’s report; synopsis, premise, structure, character, dialogue, pace, visual grammar and a conclusion.

Intensive Introduction to Screenwriting (January 2006)
A 4-week course where writers learned the basics of screenwriting through exercises and lessons. We also worked on a short script for discussion and feedback within the group.

The Visitation – Short Film (September 2005)
I acted as a runner on this short film shot in Epping Forest. Duties included driving the cast and crew plus checking equipment.

Raindance Writer’s Lab with Elliot Grove – Screenplay Course (November 2004 to January 2005)
A weekly group that looked at the business of writing scripts, from initial idea to getting it sold. A major part of it was discussing our own work within the group.
