Major Highlights
| Six years with P A Consulting broadening perspective to General Management and Production areas Finance Director of several companies and Managing Director of one. Over eleven years as Finance Director of Jacques Vert plc., handled the evolution of the accounting and Management Information needs of this SME from manual to full computerization. Turnover rose from £1.5m to £30.0m, with Pre-tax Profits never less than 15%. Supervised its USM flotation. Worked in a variety of business areas, bringing wide expertise, experience and imaginative thinking to bear on problems and opportunities Incisive and creative thinker Able to identify true Profit drivers and key performance measures. Used Sage imaginatively to achieve purposes other than originally envisaged by Sage, not only to run the accounts and produce Monthly integrated Accounts and fast relevant and useful information, but also by rethinking some of Sage’s reports and procedures, to: - plan and organize production through three workshops - convey design and construction information to craftsmen - give target times for Jobs. - operate a direct incentive scheme (productivity increased by 47% for an average 8% Bonus) - evaluate pricing and to effect a controlled price increases - measure the actual profitability of each Customer Identified the true Profit and Loss drivers within a manufacturing SME, not, until then, apparent to a major accounting firm. Assisted the MD/Owner to re-structure the group away from UK manufacturing to a branded operation. Staff levels reduced from over 300 to 15, but Losses of £500,000 pa turned round to substantial Profitability. Introduced fast Management Information flow that showed the true cost of operating poorly, poor decisions and high levels of stock and debtors. The MD was then able to release £300,000+ of hidden funds. With the IT Manager, designed and implemented a Distribution software system for a complicated inter-connected product. Designed and operated a Production forecasting system that enabled early Sales figures to be used to plan the manufacture of a complicated product, achieving 95% accuracy and consequent savings in wasted purchasing. Having operated at Board/Consulating level in a wide variety of SME clients, there are few problems that have not been dealt with. The major blocks of my career chronologically have been: 5 years articled in Wolverhampton 2 years Peat Marwick Mitchell - Birmingham 6 years P A Consulting - Finance and Production Consultant - London 11 years Jacques Vert plc - Finance Director 1988 to date – Freelance Management Consultant during which time: - 2 years Managing Director - Puffa Ltd - 2 years Finance Director/Consultant - Pierre Cardin operation - 5 years Commercial Director - Mike Adcock Furniture Ltd Interspersed within these highlight assignments or jobs have been other assignments undertaken through my own consulting business in advertising, recruitment, chemical processing, an economics consultancy, house building, and a glass fibre and composites manufacturer. I also ran two businesses one with a Hong Kong manufacturer and the other with a Florida clothing company. Recreation - refurbishing an 82 foot Dutch Barge, music, cricket and walking. |
