(1987 to 1994)

Senior Manager with responsibility for delivering national training programmes

Recruited, developed and managed a team of six Programme Managers to achieve delivery of development programmes to agreed specification and budget. Programmes included Management and Technical programmes lasting from six to eighteen months. 90% of the programmes led to a nationally recognised qualification. Programmes delivered on client premises throughout the UK.
The job involved a large volume of programmes and learners and called for a high degree of analysis in relation to tutor completion rates, achievement of programme objectives and the resulting evaluation reports.
Developed and managed a national network of tutors, trainers, advisors and assessors.
Developed excellent working relationships with many National Award and Lead Bodies. Achieved delivery status with these on behalf of the College and ensured compliance with standards and requirements.
Devised, implemented and cascaded learner support models for the effective delivery of Open College Programmes, particularly in relation to Management NVQs.
Participated in The College’s strategic and operational decision making procedures as a member of the Operations Group, Academic Board and Product Review Group.
Successfully delivered large, multi-site programmes, on time and on budget for clients such as;

North West Water – First Line Manager Development programme for c400 participants and leading to a nationally recognised qualification. 40 groups in 18 locations delivered in 9 months using self-study materials, tutorials, work based assignments and skills development workshops. Delivered on time and within budget.

United Distillers – managed the delivery of a bespoke programme for 90 managers throughout Scotland. Learners gained a SCOTVEC HNC in Management. The programme consisted of self -study materials, work based assignments, tutorials and skills development workshops specifically designed for the business.

B&Q – c. 200 First Line Managers developed using blended learning techniques. 18 Groups working simultaneously in 16 locations from Edinburgh to Exeter. Delivered over 6 months, on time and within budget.
British Gas – pioneered Open Learning delivery techniques on behalf of British Gas. Over 20 groups of supervisors gained nationally recognised qualifications with success rates exceeding 90%.

Ultimately managed over two hundred programmes per annum consisting of 3,000 learners with an average completion rate of 84%. Achieved annual turnover on programmes in excess of £2m in less than five years.
