Over 35 years in IT and still learning, every day. I have worked on systems from the microcode level up to Systems Engineering and Architecture on £100M+ projects. I understand how computer systems work from the chip level up to how they interact with people.

I have spent the last 12 years doing freelance support and consultancy for small companies and some private clients. Before that I spent a couple of years working on Air Traffic Control systems as a subsystem engineer. At the time I left the company, mine was the only subsystem to have a completed design and implementation. The design was adopted for use in other company projects.

Before that - some 15 years ago - I returned from a 6 1/2 year stay in Italy working in the Space sector, initially as a Software Architect and then a System Engineer. In the latter post I was responsible for the overall requirements definition, architecture and design of a support centre for the (recently launched) European space station module. As a result of that adventure (I moved my family lock, stock and barrel) I speak, read and (mostly) write fluent Italian.

Before going to Italy, I worked as a programmer, using several different languages, progressing on to Systems Engineer and working on a number of varied projects, some for the UK Defence establishment requiring appropriate security clearances.
