CV

I offer safety services to businesses that do not have the need for a salaried safety manager. This varies between a few hours work as and when necessary to allocating full days to a business on a regular basis. I am a competent Planning Supervisor and certified trainer in addition to being proficient in implementing safety management systems and safe methods of work. Beyond offering the traditional safety consultancy services I am also experienced in delivering behaviour based training and implementing the latest generation of safety management. Courses can be developed specifically for a company or tailored to their exact needs.

Employment History

(Mar 2006 & ongoing)

Independent Safety Manager

At the end of my 36 month contract with Crosby Homes, I reduced my hours to part time to build my own company and provide a consultancy and training service. Contracts to date include writing, developing and implementing safety policies and management systems for medium sized businesses in the contracting sector; Planning supervision for consulting companies; training for several large contractors in the construction industry and local government and undertaking accident investigations for clients as the need arises.

(Mar 2003 to Oct 2006)

Regional Group Health and Safety Manager

Covering the North West division of the Crosby Group on a 36 month contract, I am responsible for monitoring legal and organisational compliance of active construction sites. Developments range from bespoke large homes to city centre apartment blocks with retail areas which are visited from demolition stage to final handover to the client. I work across the two divisions of the company, our own build, where I am the planning supervisor and control safety on site, and Special Projects, where I monitor appointed Main Contractors and Consultant Planning Supervisors. Other duties include undertaking accident investigation and preparing claim defence bundles, sub-contractor vetting and performance monitoring, advising both our own and sub-contract company directors and promoting health and safety initiatives with the aim of achieving a safer work environment.

(Jul 2002 to Mar 2003)

Health and Safety Trainer

ATG Health and Safety Consultants

Primarily employed to provide safety management training courses within various industries, including automotive, manufacturing, construction and local government. Various assignments were completed including machinery, noise and ergonomic assessments. This position allowed me to diversify and gain experience in a wide range of industries, develop policy writing techniques, communication skills and training methods.

(Mar 1997 to Jul 2002)

Assistant Safety Officer

The National Grid Company

I worked my way up through the company to become the Assistant Safety Officer for the North West Area of the company. Duties included initiating and monitoring safety, environmental and quality campaigns in order to reduce accident rates and develop good sustainability initiatives. This role introduced me to the concepts of Health and Safety and instilled the belief within me that prevention is better than cure.
