Oracle DBA supporting Oracle databases running on Solaris

Major Projects undertaken:

�œ Production of Unix Shell scripts, Windows batch files and SQL scripts for monitoring the configuration, backups, security, health-checks and alert reporting of force databases.

DBA support to Oracle 7, 8i, 9i and 10g databases running on Unix (Solaris 7/8/9, AIX 4.3 and SUSE Linux ES9). Backups, health checks, system monitoring and general house-keeping. PL/SQL. Database clone and upgrade from 9i to 10g. Oracle 7, 8i and 9i Standby Databases. Database and SQL performance tuning and consultancy. Hummingbird Genio Log checks. Configuration of SQL and Unix shell scripts. Access Database queries. TOAD, RMAN, OEM, Data Guard, Application and Database upgrades. Exports/Imports and data extracts. Resource Manager.

Major Projects undertaken:

�œ Internal Database and Server Audit.

�œ Installation and configuration of Oracle Grid Control 10g R2 (10g Oracle Enterprise Manager), in order to centrally monitor the force Oracle and SQLServer databases and Oracle application servers and work on fail-over environment for Grid.

�œ Migration from Oracle Names Servers to central shared TNS files.

�œ Conversion of Command & control system 10g Physical Standby without Data Guard (controlled by Pilot software), to Physical Standby with Data Guard and work on set up of 10g Logical Standby database. Configuration of Data Guard Broker Client interface.

DBA support to BT 24/7 production databases (Oracle 8i/9i/10g), running in a Unix environment. (Solaris 8/9; HP-UX 11.00/11.11). Duties include system monitoring (availability, capacity, performance etc). Daily health checks. Back-up monitoring. On-call rota. Reactive problem resolution. Change management. Recovery from hardware failure. Maintenance of support documentation. Project notification of vendor driven software upgrades. Application/database performance review and tuning where agreed by management and customer. Maintenance of Oracle software set (patches, upgrades, utilities). Support of non-production instances. Security and audit compliance. Clarify eFrontOffice. Technical advice to other DBA�fs and BT project and application teams.

Major Projects undertaken:

�œ Migration of BT CSCS Terabyte databases with partitioning option. (Call Statistics Centralisation System). Databases moved from Oracle 8i to 9i; HP-UX 11.00 to 11.11; US7ASCII to WE8MSWIN1252 character set and from one server to another in different data centres. Also consolidated number of datafiles during this process. (Project involved migration of 2 production Terabyte databases and 2 development/test databases).
�œ BT CENSYS application Oracle 8i to 9i database upgrade.
�œ Oracle 9.2.0.5 to 9.2.0.6 upgrade of 3 test and development databases, hosting an ETL application and a datamart (BIP) application.

Live support/production DBA, and Business Objects developer/support person.

Support of Oracle 7,8,8i and 9i databases for various police forces across the U.K., various U.K. fire brigades and various councils and managed services contracts.

This work involved: Database Administration Tasks; Support/Fault Finding & Resolution; Backup & Recovery; 8i Standby Databases/Oracle Failsafe/Sun HA Clusters/Oracle 7 Replication; On-Call (24x7x365 rota); Data Migration/Loading/TOAD; SQL*Plus scripting. I also undertook some PL/SQL programming and worked with Unix and Windows shell scripts; Documentation and testing; Database Creation, Installation, Modification, Upgrades, Cloning, Baselines, Exports/Imports, Logminer; Performance Tuning/Statspack/SQLTrace/TKPROF; Oracle Networking Fault finding and resolution. Work with Developers/Programmers/Senior & Junior DBA�fs/Contractors/Support Teams/Systems Engineers/Management and Client�fs own I.T. Staff, DBA�fs and Management.

The Oracle Databases were running on Windows NT4, 2000 and 2003 Servers; Solaris 8 and 9 and AIX 4.3.

I also produced and supported Business Objects and Crystal Reports for use by UK-wide police forces and for Wiltshire County Council. I was the lead support person for Vivista for Business Objects thin-client, standalone and shared installations.

I advised other internal Crystal 10 Reports Writers and supported the internal Crystal Enterprise 10 installation.

�œ Lead Video Witness (Image management system) DBA UK-wide.
�œ Design, testing and implementation of Business Objects thin-client(Citrix) for UK-wide rollout to Police clients.
�œ Business Objects Universe, Supervisor and Report Design, implementation, documentation and support for NSPIS Custody Police programme.
�œ Crystal Reports design and production for Wiltshire County Council and for internal Vivista customers.
�œ Implementation of Oracle Enterprise Manager monitoring for Oracle databases at Wiltshire County Council.
�œ Oracle 7 to 8i and 8i to 9i Database migrations for various Police customers.
�œ Go-live DBA for NSPIS Command and Control and Video Witness Programmes.
�œ Production and design of Access 97 Inventory database for Managed Services customer, including access forms and reports.

I was employed by Fenna Group to implement Business Objects Reports, Business Objects Enterprise and a Business View for GE Mexico. Initially the work was undertaken with version 10 software, but then updated to version 11(XI). I was the only member of staff dedicated to working on this project.

Once the installation had been completed by me, on-site in Mexico, I was asked to demonstrate its functionality to GE in India, Portugal and America remotely, as the installation that I had set-up would be used by GE in 39 countries across the world.

I also installed, configured and supported the internal test and development Oracle databases for the company, running on Windows 2000/2003 Server and Red Hat Linux Enterprise Server 4.

I worked with Java developers to produce software releases of the GE Whitemail (Complaints management system) software.

I also produced a schema design for a new database for use by GE bank on their OriGEnator (mortgage advice) program, working along-side various Business Analysts and Java developers. The schema was to be used by GE worldwide across 39 or more countries.
