Role Description
The Systems Manager role has technical responsibility for the running and proactive development of the infrastructure, covering the majority of functions from daily duties, long term strategy and staff management. A consolidation plan was implemented to provide Boodle Hatfield with a common server platform providing a stable environment to accommodate large scale change expected in 2007. The current domain was migrated to AD 2003 with Exchange 2003, from NT4/Exchange 5.5 delivered within scope. The need for a BCP was identified in Q2 2005 culminating with a successful implementation with the “go live” completed in January 06; the infrastructure recovery uses offsite image based recovery using Symantec Livestate. Implementation of a new Exchange infrastructure providing increases resilience with additional mobile and remote capabilities. Support duties include 3rd/4th line support for a Wintel environment and numerous legal specific applications including Laserforms, TotalSpeech, Axxia Arista PMS with FED32 and Worldox DM system. Implementation of NG R55 active / passive firewall perimeter based on Nokia hardware, with migration to NGX. Capacity planning and forecasting for the firm’s onsite data centre; VMWare projects included virtualization of a Citrix PS4 farm, upgrading the unsupported XPa farm.

Role Description
The role at iE encompassed “hands on” management of internal infrastructure and provide external client consultancy. Managing a small team and a larger support rota for 24x7 support of clients. Numerous internal projects were completed, notably the migration from a distributed NT4 based domain model to the current Windows 2003 Active Directory from project inception to operation. Design and implementation of centralized disaster recovery with BCP. Secure and segregated DMZ based infrastructure connecting client infrastructures using CheckPoint products. Client consultancy for data centre, server and web services for HBoS, RBSG, HFC, Generali and HSBC through procurement to operational handover. AD Migrations and Exchange consultancy provided for external clients.

Support Analyst for both Concise Group Ltd and Apex CR Ltd computer recruitment companies, providing 2nd and 3rd line support to the main Helpdesk on a Wintel platform; covering all regional offices (London/Bristol/Manchester/Dublin). Complete ownership of the company’s unified fax/email solution –throughout the project lifecycle; purchasing, implementation, training and support. DBA for the main recruitment database and staff training. Reporting on projects to board level. Disaster recovery strategy for remote offices, MimeSweeper content based security implementation and administration.

2nd and 3rd Line support analyst on a contract basis for the British Red Cross, providing a senior level of support to the helpdesk covering Novell 4.11, NT4 Workstations and Server. Implementation of a Helpdesk solution with ongoing development and integrated asset tracking. Troubleshooting LAN technologies, identifying issues leading to the implementation of a CAT5 based infrastructure. Design and implementation of a new NDS structure for an international organization. DR implementation for UK based infrastructure using CA’s ArcServe.

Weekend responsibilities included running the business including a team of five. Support included the administration of the network (Novell 4.11/NT4) for both employees and students. Design and implementation of two regional training offices. Setup and implementation of Microsoft, Novell, Lotus Notes and Internet courses to required standard. Procurement of IT resources used by the business.
