Development of a Department Wide Sustainable Development Strategy and Action Plan for the DCA
Department for Constitutional Affairs
A Department wide Sustainable Development (SD) Strategy and Action Plan was developed for the DCA in response to the revised UK Sustainable Development Strategy, ‘Securing the Future’ (2005) requirements that all Government departments and their central agencies to produce “focused sustainable development action plans” based on the UK Strategy by December 2005. It was also developed to improve the SD performance of this central government department in response to the findings of the Audit Commission of them being a department that still has some way to go in terms of SD.
The Strategy is a high level document which provides the rationale behind and the framework for embedding SD into the DCAs activities. The associated action plan sets out the detailed objectives and targets on how the strategy and SD will be implemented over the next year.
We developed both documents through conducting interviews with key individuals across the DCA as well as with the Sustainable Development Commission and through this process of engagement, developed a department wide Sustainability Steering Group.
