I run my own small company, which specialises in the design and production of technical information – that’s what the 'i' stands for.

The 'Team' comprises a core of just two, based at our home office in Somerset, combined with an extended team working from their own premises throughout the UK.

The core team possess decades of experience, not only in technical publications, but also in project and financial management within the same field and elsewhere.

The extended team are not simply an additional resource. Their mix of skills and experience allows us to include a wide variety of complementary specialisms, in depth.

Currently, all members of the extended team have worked with members of the core team over at least a decade, sometimes decades. When the time comes to supplement these team members, great care will be taken in selecting additional members and much reliance placed on personal recommendation from within the team.

So, the company may be relatively new but the skill, knowledge, experience and working relationships are well-established. This enables us to offer a flexible service of a high standard, whilst taking advantage of low overheads to provide our customers with cost-effective solutions.

My productive role as Director of this company has, to date, included:

* Writing Technical Manuals to support a number of bespoke automated production systems, with mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic and software content.
* Bid support for a major computer systems company.
* Content editing for a disk-based sports training package.
* Processing data from Excel into a complex format Word document for the NHS, requiring macro development in both applications.
* Compilation of manuals to support bespoke processing plant for the food industry.
* Editing for format and content a suite of Management, Strategy and Specification documents for a major organisation in the Rail industry.

Technical Publications Manager [reporting to Financial/Managing Director]
Initially based at Wokingham Office, then Gosport Office, finally Eastleigh
(Southampton). Responsibilities included:
• SUPERVISION of staff (ca. 60) to meet budgets and clients’ requirements,
recruitment of new staff
• SELLING the company’s product (Technical Publications, Retrieval Systems and
Training)
• COSTING new work, producing PROPOSALS, preparation of annual and monthly
BUDGETS, sales and work in progress MANAGEMENT FIGURES
• Actively involved in the assessment and PROCUREMENT of hardware and
software for networked document processing systems
Also involved in the development and marketing of computer-based training and
information retrieval systems, on-line documentation, interactive video, multimedia. During this period, a significant proportion of contracts were indirectly or
directly for NATO (NACISMA) on satellite communications projects.

SOFTWARE DESCRIPTION MANUALS to several military and commercial specifications,
for a wide variety of subjects as listed below. This involved the interpretation of
basic engineering information such as circuit diagrams or software code listings.
