Kompan are Europe's largest manufacturer of playground equipment. They required a web based Asset Management system to provide all their customers with a tool to manage the full lifecycle all their playground assets from purchase to decommission. The software also allowed the customer to access the technical, marketing and manufacturing information for equipment they had purchased and order spare parts. The application was developed in C#, ASP.NET and SQL Server

Internationalisation – The application has to launch in 3 European languages with a further 2 to follow in 12 months. The application had to make extensive use of the Globalisation and Localisation features of the .NET Framework.
Office 2007 UI – The design brief required a web based “Microsoft Office 2007 style” user interface. In part this could be achieved through use of the Infragistics UI components but additional components had to be developed from scratch. Systems Integration – The application had to interface with 3 existing applications. Communication was via XML, CSV and Web Services

Soyl provide precision farming consultancy to the agricultural industry. The project required the development of a C# Windows Forms application to export/import geographical field data to ESRI Shape Files.

3rd Party Components – I had to research, specify and implement suitable specialist 3rd party components to perform the mapping function.
ESRI – Building the application required rapid familiarisation with the ESRI geographical data interchange format.

A Research & Development project under strict non-disclosure for the telecoms industry. My involvement with the project was to develop a Windows service application in C# that would allow custom telephony devices to connect and exchange data with a SQL Server database. I also developed an ASP.NET front end that would allow the user to interrogate and configure individual telephony devices.

Areas of Interest
Multi threaded TCP/IP – The Service Application had to handle communication sockets with hundreds of simultaneous connections. Although the .NET Framework takes care of the low level TCP/IP I had to design and implement a reliable messaging structure
Highly Concurrent Web Application – The Web Control Panel had to be designed to handle potentially thousands of concurrent users. This required connection pooling, reduced page weight and efficient Session usage.

For KolFa I have developed a VB.NET web application that allows members of the public, Community Wardens and the Police to record Anti-Social Behaviour incidents. The application allows an anonymous user to record basic information about an isolated incident and indicate the location by clicking on a map. Authenticated users can store detailed information and keep a diary of events over time.

Web 2 Mapping – The Application could switch between Google Maps and Microsoft Virtual Earth to ensure availability of a mapping service Authenticated and un Authenticated access. The Application used the ASP.NET Master Page feature to ensure consistent UI between Authenticated and un Authenticated users.
Compact Framework – A Compact Framework PDA application was developed to capture time and location stamped images at the scene. Data is then relayed back to the server over UMTS, if available or USB when the PDA is docked.

For PSS I have developed a paperless inspection system. The software allows an inspector to carry out inspections using a PDA and synchronize findings with a desktop PC. The PDA application was developed using C# and the .Net Compact Framework while the desktop software was a .NET Windows Forms application.

The Signum application was a management information system for mobile ‘phone usage reporting. The system imported a data feed from the ‘phone supplier billing system and provided statistical and details reporting on usage. This application made extensive use of SQL Server and ASP.NET. In addition to the web reporting application a SOAP API was developed to facilitate integration with external systems.

Dialogue provided Carrier Pre Select equipment for call routing for both business and consumer users. The routing software in the device was developed in C for the ATML processor. The devices would connect periodically to a central server to update their routing tables. The devices connected to a Windows Service application and routing details wer stored in SQl Server. The management software was used by a number or resellers across the country The management application was a Windows Forms application that communicated with the server over a secure SOAP web service.
